The Exception Processing Specialist position uses established policies and procedures to research, process, and maintain accurate information.

Essential Job Requirements

  • Analyzes payment and related correspondence to determine what type of action is needed
  • Research and resolve mis-posted payments, returned disbursements, employer out-of-balance transactions, void/rewrite of disbursements, unidentified payments, and court order information
  • Uses established policies and procedures to work assigned items such as held disbursements, stale dated checks, refunds, lost and stolen affidavits, and returned checks
  • Utilize all methods of research including KAECSES, Case Workers, Clerks of the District Court, Other States, etc… as appropriate
  • Accountable for accuracy and completion of all transactions within established service level guidelines
  • Contact employers, custodial and non custodial parents in order to resolve exception payments
  • Navigate through multiple computer screens in order to provide correct information to inquiring parties within acceptable service timeframes
  • Contribute to the established site wide accuracy rate
  • Utilizes reports and web tool requests to initiate system changes on court orders and obligations
  • Serving as a backup to Customer Service - Respond to incoming calls from employers, IV-D and Non IV-D customers, state and local child support staff, child support staff from other states, and other individuals concerned with remitting child support payments to the SDU
  • Responsible to initiate outreach calls to offer alternate EFT disbursement and payment options
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Maintain a professional demeanor under stressful circumstances
  • Adhere to all safety and security procedures
  • Adhere to overall site Risk Activities, such as daily document shredding, and piggybacking
  • Other duties as assigned to meet business needs

Required Education

  • High school diploma or GED

Required Experience


  • Experience in researching and following through to resolution
  • Experience in customer service preferred
  • Experience in child support is preferred
