What to Expect Daily as an Excavation Laborer/Entry Level Heavy Equipment Operator
You get paid to play in the dirt! Typical days will include performing tasks, under the direction of the site foreman, involving physical labor and using hand and power tools of all types, at heavy construction project sites or demolition sites. Some examples of those tasks can include cleaning and preparing sites, shoveling dirt and/or rock by hand, performing tasks for traffic control such as sign-holding, digging trenches, laying pipe, setting braces to support the sides of excavations, cleaning up rubble and debris, assist other craft workers including asphalt and concrete crews, load, unload, identify, and distribute building materials to the appropriate location according to project plans and specifications. The rough operation of heavy equipment (vs Finish Operation) such as Backhoes, Excavators, Bulldozers, Rollers, Sweepers, Trenchers, and the like, will be used as experience, or training allows. Laborers may also perform entry-level operation tasks such as setting up GPS for Skilled Operators.
Qualifications to be an Excavation Laborer/Entry Level Heavy Equipment Operator
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have reliable means of transportation
- Reliable means of communication
- The ability to follow directions and safety regulations, written and verbal, in English.
- Experience is welcomed, but not required.
