ESL Instructor (Spanish Speaking)

Position Summary

Community Tech is an Information Technology services company with over 11 years of service to both the commercial and public sectors. We are a small minority-owned business located in Washington DC, that takes pride in maintaining strong and extended business relationships with clients such as the District Government, Veterans Affairs, Wine.com, Career Team, Marriott, Providence Medical Building, Bowie State University, and ResCare Inc., to name a few.

Under the supervision of the Coordinator of Education or the assigned designee, the ESL instructor will provide English language lessons to self-identified Hispanic non-native speakers. It is the responsibility of the ESL instructor to facilitate course materials and design lessons that cover all aspects of the English language, whether written or verbal; by using the UDEMY teaching platform. The ESL instructor will also be responsible for delivering various certificate-based training to the Hispanic, and Spanish-speaking population in partnership with Community Tech, LLC.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate and teach the components of the specified class for youth and adults in the Hispanic community
• Execute lesson plans, assign tasks and evaluate student work and progress
• Supervise, and motivate student participants
• Promote a safe, effective, and ethical learning environment
• Use professional discretion and judgment in managing students in a classroom setting
• Support efforts to complete monthly progress reports for student participants and ensure the Chief of Operations receives appropriate documents in a timely fashion
• Report regularly to the Coordinator of Education or assigned designee on the progress being made
• Assure computer equipment is functioning and appropriately utilized by the participants (If any challenges with the equipment please enter a help desk ticket)
• Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings
• Attend regular supervision sessions

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalency
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
• Excellent team player
• Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
• Minimum of 2 years relevant experience
• Degree preferred

Requirements

• Must be Spanish speaking
• Previous experience as an ESL teacher or similar role
• Knowledge of various methods of teaching English to non-native speakers
• Able to pass a background check
• Great organizational and communication skills
• A calm and resilient personality
• Ability to handle classroom crises
• ESL or TESOL certification
• Degree in English Language, English Literature or a similar field

This is a public-facing position. Telework for “emergency / special” situations must be approved in advance by Community Tech CEO or his designee.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $16.10 - $18.00 per hour

Schedule:

• 4 hour shift
