ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES MANAGER

SCHEDULE: Full time, Varied hours, Monday-Friday between 7:00am-6:00pm, Weekends as needed

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Plans, organizes, directs, coordinates, and supervises functions of the Environmental Services to maintain the hospital environment in a sanitary, attractive and orderly condition in compliance with regulatory requirements.

Maintains personnel requirements including job descriptions, performance appraisals, disciplinary action, continuing education, and proficiency testing for compliance with federal, state and local regulations. Ensures consistent application of all departmental and hospital policies.

Selects and trains/orients and assigns department staff; develops standards of performance; evaluates performance and initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions.

Schedules and supervises work activities so as not to interrupt or interfere with patient care activities.

Maintains financial operation to meet departmental and hospital budgets, including preparation of operating budget and timely review of financial performance. Prepares capital equipment budget based on input from department employees.

Provides appropriate services to meet the needs of the department’s customers as requested including but not limited to the provision of accurate and timely information.

Provides essential equipment and supplies to ensure that cleaning agents meet the requirement standards to effect maximum cleanliness and sanitation.

Provides appropriate staffing to perform departmental functions to meet expectations of departmental customers.

Maintains and participates in Quality Improvement/Quality Assurance activities as determined by the hospital including hospital operational improvement.

Gathers data to ascertain operational parameters for evaluation of Q.I. opportunities and

Ensures compliance with departmental and hospital policies, as it pertains to ACHC, HFAP, OSHA, I.S.D.H., and other regulatory agencies.

Promotes positive employee relations by: using positive communication methods; supporting employee continuing education and professional development; instilling employee commitment the Mission and Values of the Hospital; motivating employees to improve the image of JMH and ensuring employee commitment to customer service and continuous quality improvement.

Works with staff to develop and present effective training programs, project work scheduling/completion, soil prevention plans, quality improvement initiatives, and otherprojects as assigned/needed.

Investigates and specifies appropriate chemicals, tools, equipment to safely and productively complete the work. Involves employees in product evaluation and selection.

Instructs and involves employees in the development of appropriate work assignments andwork schedules to maximize available labor in providing appropriate services in a fair, reasonable, safe and productive manner. Prepares work schedules with employee assignments.

Monitors and directs work routines to ensure compliance with policies and procedures of the department, hospital, and licensing agencies.

Maintains operating and maintenance instructions for tools and equipment. Maintains MSDS and orientation/training files.

Develops and works towards accomplishing Hospital and Department goals and objectives; ensures regulatory and legal compliance; evaluates current practice and make appropriate changes to improve productivity and enhance expense reduction.

Inspects and evaluates the hospital’s physical condition. Makes recommendations concerning painting, repairs, furnishings and furniture, relocation of equipment, and allocation of space to improve sanitation, appearances, and efficiency.

Oversees service contract commitments by working with vendors to establish the terms and conditions of contract and verifies services rendered have complied with the expectations as written.

Instructs and upon occasion, works directly in the field to help support the desired/expected outcomes.

Responsible for the department goals and objectives.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING:

  • High School diploma required. Prior management experience in environmental service preferred.
  • Executive Housekeeper Certificate preferred.
