Position Location:
This position is located in Los Alamos, New Mexico.

Position Summary:
This position serves as a CH-TRU Environmental Professional advisor for clean-up operations as a result of past TRU processing activities. Specific duties may include, but are not necessarily limited to, conducting environmental protection assessments to evaluate contaminated sites, analyzing and recommending technical solutions, and assisting in the development of TRU waste isolation and/or removal strategies.
The Environmental Professional will provide environmental protection support and work with management and staff throughout the CH-TRU and Regulatory Compliance organizations to solve environmental compliance issues. Oversees and develops processes necessary for ensuring compliance with technical and regulatory requirements
This position reports to the Regulatory Compliance Director.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities (may include, but are not limited to):
- Conducts environmental protection assessments/walk downs of contaminated sites to determine the scope, constituent content, and physical parameters of the pollutants.
- Assists Field Technicians with environmental compliance inspections of operations and facilities through CH-TRU to identify, mitigate and correct potential environmental compliance issues.
- Writing of procedures to implement regulatory requirements.
- Assists Environmental Professionals with implementing the EPA Multi-Sector General Permit and Construction General Permit for CH TRU specific projects.
- Assists Environmental Professional with environmental investigations, determining corrective actions, and preparation of regulatory documents.
- Serves as a point of contact regarding environmental compliance issues.
- Understands the technical aspects of various regulatory requirements and how they impact clean-up operations at CH-TRU
- Advises and consults with all levels of staff throughout the CH-TRU organization in identifying, resolving, and developing solutions to environmental-related problems.
- Maintains a good working knowledge of various regulatory requirements and how they impact CH-TRU clean-up operation.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):
- Basic knowledge of federal, state and local environmental and related health legislation and regulations including the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Hazardous and Solid Waste Amendments (HSWA), Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Multi-Sector General Permit (MSGP), and EPA Construction General Permit (CGP).
- Maintain a working knowledge of regulatory requirements under the Los Alamos National Laboratory Hazardous Waste Facility Permit
- Basic experience with inspections of EPA MSGP and CGP areas, Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) areas, waste storag1e areas, and waste containers.
- Ability to write procedures and reports effectively to communicate regulatory requirements
- Knowledge of and experience with environmental protection principles
- Communicate major elements of environmental protection and remediation to both technical and non-technical personnel
- Proven customer service and communication skills sufficient to partner with the CH-TRU organization to implement sound environmental protection practices
- Ability to become or be CISEC certified
Education and Experience Required:
An Associate’s Degree in related discipline and 2 years of related experience.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
Physical requirements conducive to a normal office environment. Job performance requires adequate visual acuity and manual dexterity for meeting the requirements of the discipline. Light work involves lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Job requires spending time in the field gathering data and monitoring environmental conditions firsthand. Field activities may require working in unfavorable weather conditions.
