PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Willard Marine is searching for an Engineering Supervisor to serve as a leader within the Engineering team and grow their knowledge base, overall skill sets and contributions to the business. The Engineering Manager will report to the Director of Engineering and act as a key member of the Management Team, working collaboratively with Operations, Manufacturing, Procurement, Sales, Marketing and Finance.
- Manage a team of 2-3 engineering professionals. Provide direction and mentorship towards developing engineered solutions that meet both functional and regulatory requirements and production timelines.
- Ability to support development of vessel arrangements and to perform feasibility and concept-level design of marine vessels, as well as detail design of specific portions of vessels or modifications.
- Supports Sales for various international and domestic solicitations.
- Lead the development of documentation, plans and bills of materials required for the complete production of fiberglass and aluminum boats
- Ability to support development of contract plans, specifications, and estimates for commercial and government projects.
- Ability to support development of structural design and calculations for vessel construction and modification.
- Ability to perform trim and stability calculations for marine vessels using ORCA. Ability to generate vessel design and modification drawings using AutoCAD, Solidworks, or Rhino to support design, modifications, design studies, and contract drawings.
- Good understanding of U.S. Coast Guard and marine classification society rules and regulatory requirements in the U.S. and abroad
- Excellent communication skills with clients, internal team and other staff.
- General knowledge of a wide range of smaller commercial and military vessels, construction materials (FRP and Aluminum) and typical propulsion systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills to help resolve business issues.
- Good understanding of production scheduling and the drawings necessary to meet these schedules.
- Review completed construction drawings and cost estimates for accuracy and conformity to standards and regulations.
- Explain drawings to production or construction teams and provide adjustments as necessary.
- Prepare, or direct the preparation of product or system layouts and detailed production drawings and schematics.
- Conduct analytical, environmental, operational, or performance studies in order to develop designs for products, such as marine engines, equipment, and structures.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- BS/BA degree in Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum 5-8 years’ experience in Engineering work focused primarily in the design and production of smaller (<50’) boats for the commercial or government markets. Must be proficient in naval architecture and marine engineering, including structural design and analysis, stability analysis, vessel modification and regulatory analysis and other naval architecture and engineering services.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks, Rhino and/or Autocad and Microsoft Office applications is required.
