Engineer Mechanical Design Job at COMTECH TELECOMMUNICATIONS
Summary:
Skilled in designing, developing, modifying, and evaluating mechanical systems and components for indoor/outdoor electronic equipment. Mechanical and electromechanical systems include controls, packaging, machines and/or mechanical, thermal, and cooling/heat transfer systems. Experience in Structural analysis is a plus. Analyzes requirements and determines design approaches and parameters. Conducts experimental tests and evaluates results. Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability. Skilled in product design approaches and parameters for feasibility, reliability, and manufacturability. Skilled in experimental testing to qualify design and evaluate results.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Product design and validation - including documentation, and evaluation of products by applying knowledge of engineering principles.
- Design, analysis and performance of mechanical systems, equipment and packaging of electronic components.
- Conducts feasibility and performance studies for testing of new and modified product designs.
- Helps in the preparation of detailed design, testing, and drafting to document designs.
- Creates 3-dimensional layout models of electronic assemblies and computes weights, dimensions, clearances, tolerances, interconnections, user interfaces and locations of holes.
- Drafts detailed multi-view drawings of parts and assemblies, including specifications for wiring, labeling and overlay artwork.
- Assembles prototypes and checks fit, mechanical function, manufacturability and human factors.
- Modifies design to correct operating deficiencies or to reduce production problems.
- Monitors assemblies and parts during production to ensure compliance with design specifications.

Computer Skills and/or Tools: 3D Modeling CAD tools: SolidWorks.
Compensation: $90,000-110,000, depending on experience and location
Location: This position requires working 100% on site in Chandler, AZ or Santa Clara, CA
Qualifications/Competencies:
Strong knowledge and experience with:
- 3D CAD modeling design (SolidWorks)
- Thermal analysis and modeling
- Thermal air flow analysis and modeling
- Environmental stress (vibration & shock)
- Mechanical packaging
- Experience with hybrid (chip and wire) manufacturing techniques a plus
- Root cause analysis
- MIL-STD requirements and testing

- Proven history of successful development of thermal cooling systems
- Demonstrated track record of working closely with team members in a fast-paced environment to bring development concepts into high yield, reliable production components, assemblies and products.
Education and/or Experience:
Requires a BS or MS of mechanical engineering- 5+ years of job related experience
May also consider: a two year technical degree, trade school, or related military training with ten years of experience in an R&D environment
