Under the direction and supervision of the Fire Battalion Chief/EMS and Training, the EMS Lieutenant is responsible for developing curriculum, scheduling, and teaching continuing education for Paramedics and EMTs. Duties include: assisting in completing required paperwork and filing with the Texas Department of State Health Services to ensure compliance with all certification and licensing requirements; coordinating and taking an active role in Quality Improvement and Quality Assurance programs; medication and medical supply purchasing and inventory; handling record requests and, overseeing the EMS Field Training Program. Other duties include providing complex administrative and technical support to the Battalion Chief, Deputy Chief, and Fire Chief.
The Southlake Fire Department holds multiple accreditations supporting the superior level of service maintained by the Fire Department. SFD has been accredited by the Commission of Fire Accreditation International (CFAI) since 1999, is Mission Lifeline Gold Plus-Level, and has an Insurance Services Office ISO- 1 ranking.

What You Will Be Doing

Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
- EMS Training Program. Develops and facilitates medical training/continuing education for the Fire Department Paramedics and EMTs. Researches applicable educational topics. Organizes information and develops related training presentations. Evaluates training effectiveness by preparing and administering exams and skills evaluation for training participants.
- Field Training Officer Program. Supervises and oversees the Field Training Officer (FTO) Program by providing initial EMS FTO training; coordinating the EMS FTO program for new Paramedics and EMTs; and identifying remedial training for current Paramedics and EMTs, as required. Evaluates the effectiveness of the training program, reports results, monitors metrics, and makes recommendations for program improvements.
- Certification Program Oversight. Coordinates, maintains, and ensures all certifications, re-certifications, and licenses are completed on time and files all necessary paperwork with the appropriate agencies for the Fire Department and departmental personnel.
- EMS Program. Reviews all EMS patient care reports and provides feedback to paramedics; provides medical oversight of pre-hospital medical care provided by paramedics to ensure compliance with protocols, accepted clinical standards, and state law. Rides with field personnel to evaluate their medical knowledge, skills, and performance and recommends training as needed.

What You Bring To Us
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Must hold a current Structure Fire Protection Certification and have had it for a minimum of six (6) years.
- Possession of a valid Texas Class B driver's license.
- Possession of Paramedic certification from the Texas Department of State Health Services.
- Possession of an Intermediate (or higher) Structural Firefighter Certificate issued by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection.
- Must possess EMS Instructor certification from the Texas DSHS within 12 months of appointment.
- Possession of Fire Officer II certification issued by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) is preferred.
- Ability to remain flexible with your schedule. Must be able to work unusual hours with the ability to be on call after business hours. Must be able to work weekends and holidays, if needed.
- Must carry out other duties assigned, in absence of, the EMS Battalion Chief.

Pay: $108,352.50 - $119,187.75 per year
