The Employee Relations Manager leads all aspects of Employee relations at the theatres. The role partners extensively with the Region VPs, the Theatre GMs and other Theatre management staff under the direction of the Vice President, ER. Additionally, this role will analyze case details and facts, maintain objectivity, and collaborate with field management to ensure decisions support Cinemark’s policies, values, and federal/state laws and regulations. This role will support a positive workplace environment, good employee morale, and a culture of productivity, engagement, and career success.
Responsibilities
- Partner with field managers to guide or conduct in-depth investigations on employee relations issues and/or termination, final counseling or demotion disputes
- Provide guidance and direction to managers on employment issues and related laws including, but not limited to: ADA, FMLA, and FLSA.
- Create and facilitate formal and informal training on employee relations practices and procedures such as performance counseling and case documentation.
- Ensure HR policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance with state, federal and local laws.
- Assist in the development, implementation or rollout of new policies and procedures, and employee handbook.
- Partner with field managers on performance/conduct/attendance discipline, including formal counseling meetings and terminations, and ensure proper documentation.
- Conduct investigations into complaints such as bullying, theft, hostile work environment.
- Provide regular status updates to customer, maintain customer contact until request is resolved, and document all resolutions.
- Log and track employee issues, and prepare reports for the VP of HR, and other senior leaders.
- Partner with internal and external counsel as necessary to effectively manage employment practice complaints and claims.
- Identify employment metrics and trends and partner with senior leaders to develop action plans to improve engagement and diversity and inclusion metrics.
- Be an objective, open-minded, and trustworthy resource for employees and managers.
- Participate with the HR management team on general HR and corporate projects and activities.
Requirements
- Five or more years of experience in a Human Resources department, performing significant amounts of employee relations work. Must have strong experience conducting ER investigations, partnering and coaching managers on performance management, and resolving conflicts in the workplace.
- Experience working in HR in a multi-state company of at least 500 employees.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Communication, Psychology, or related. Extra years of relevant experience in lieu of degree.
- Professional certification in HR is desired (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP).
- Strong working knowledge of federal, state and local laws including but not limited to, FMLA, ADA, FLSA.
- Superior relationship skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with others to build strong and trusting relationships.
- Good record of taking initiative and a balanced, objective approach with good judgment when recommending a course of action or handling an investigation.
- Sense of urgency and drive toward closure on open employee complaints.
- Able to provide an independent viewpoint on people and issues, along with the strength and sensitivity to deliver tough messages to leaders and employees.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Able to multi-task and manage multiple priorities to produce results.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a disciplined approach to case documentation.
- Expertise in workplace investigations, conflict management, facilitation, and coaching.
- Proficient in the use of HR technology. Strong Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word skills.
- Quantitative analysis skills for writing reports and using Excel software to track, analyze and present data.
- Project management experience.
- Supervisory skills including good judgment, communication, listening, leadership.
- Self-directed work style with a drive to complete tasks and projects, staying organized and on track.
