We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of Employee Engagement Specialist within our Community Relations and Employee Engagement group based in Houston, Texas.


The Employee Engagement Specialist is responsible for planning and executing strategic employee engagement activities in coordination with other domestic engagement activities in our Permian Basin and Rockies operating areas. This position assists the Community Relations and Employee Engagement team with communications, marketing and logistical support for Community Relations and Employee Engagement activities that support Oxy’s overall business objectives. The successful candidate will be a valuable liaison with our external partners while also influencing our internal culture through strategic and creative employee engagement and opportunities for volunteerism. The successful candidate will be based in Houston, Texas, and will be required to travel to various locations.


Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for executing strategic employee programs and engagement activities in the company’s Permian Basin and Rockies operating areas; duties include event scheduling, employee communications, tracking volunteer/participant registration, project planning and coordination with region field and office facilities teams on event logistics.
  • Partner with Community Relations, asset management and region leadership to ensure outstanding implementation of Oxy’s employee engagement and volunteer programs; identify ways to increase employee awareness and leverage employee participation to support social impact in the communities where we live and work.
  • Assists with ticket distribution for employee events by tracking responses, following the ticket distribution process, selecting ticket recipients, analyzing tracking and response results to provide appropriate data.
  • Manage inventory of Oxy-branded supplies, materials and giveaway items for community and employee engagement events; order/replenish items as needed and approved, and provide monthly inventory report to team.
  • Collaborate with Community Relations and Business Transformation/Communications teams for external marketing and communications deliverables needed to support employee engagement and volunteer activities – including branding and use of logo in promotional materials; print, radio, television, web and social media; video and broadcasting scripts; speaker remarks for events, etc. Track and maintain status of requests for internal and external marketing and communications deliverables.
  • Collaborate with Community Relations and Business Transformation/Communications teams to create and distribute internal communications that drive employee awareness of engagement and volunteer opportunities – including employee announcements, event and ticket registration, Yammer and Teams posts, flyers, display posters, and newsletter features.
  • Update and maintain internal community relations and employee engagement site, including posting of upcoming engagement events (i.e., volunteer events, community engagement events, employee donation drives, etc.); update employee perks and discount opportunities on community partner pages; and create feature content for intercompany community relations site, highlighting employee engagement events and community impact.
  • Review partnership and sponsorship agreements with Community Relations pre- and post-events, in order to ensure rights and benefits are fully received, and any adjustments, credits, substitutions, etc. are fully documented.
  • Prepare post-event recap reports, to include engagement statistics (i.e., number of participants, number of volunteers, registration response rate, ticket utilization rate, etc.). Provide metrics for quarterly/annual community relations reporting, budgeting and planning.
  • Compile documentation for engagement event payments – including invoice, Form W9, event agreement and background information for initiating payment requests.
  • Provide updates to the team events and activities calendar, and weekly status report, in relation to Permian Basin and Rockies community and employee engagement activities.
  • Attend and represent the Community Relations and Employee Engagement team at Oxy-sponsored events as needed; may require travel to U.S. domestic locations.
  • Community Relations and Employee Engagement team support and special projects as needed.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Communications, Human Resources Management, Corporate Social Responsibility/Sustainability or related field.
  • 3 + years of career experience with progressively increasing responsibilities in community relations, employee engagement, human resources, corporate philanthropy, or supporting a non-profit organization.
  • Experience planning high-impact and corporate/employee events required; must be able to work effectively with a sense of urgency while managing multiple projects.
  • Demonstrate a high-level of creativity, innovation, as well as flexibility and collaboration with an ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • A client-centered focus is critical: must possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to comfortably interact in person and virtually with executives, senior leaders, employees and community leaders.
  • Project administration experience with ability to simultaneously track, facilitate and deliver multiple employee engagement activities to completion.
  • Demonstrated planning, change management and strategic thinking capabilities.
  • Must be organized, detail-oriented, analytical and a resourceful problem solver, with the ability to formulate and execute plans efficiently and effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities to meet internal and external deadlines.
  • Excellent networking skills, with the ability to positively represent the company at all times.
  • Effective judgement, tact, diplomacy, and discretion is required in all matters.
  • Excellent communication skills required – strong written, verbal and presentation capabilities.
  • Advanced level skills in MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams
  • May require ability to lift objects up to 20 lbs.
  • Must be able to attend evening and weekend events as needed.
  • Ability to travel up to 30%.
  • Career experience in oil and gas/ energy industry is a strong plus.
