GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Install, repair, and maintain two-way radio and other electronic equipment. May perform any task of lower-level class in this classification series.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Work under the supervision of the Administration Division Manager, who assigns work, establishes goals and reviews results for effectiveness and conformance to department standards.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Supervision of other employees is not a responsibility of positions in this classification; however, may exercise lead direction over assigned personnel or temporary workers.

Typical Duties - Duties include, but are not limited to the following

  • Successfully troubleshoot and repair electronic equipment in the shop, in vehicles, and in a field environment.
  • Ability to document work accomplished, including details on time and parts utilized.
  • Data entry, utilizing both computer software systems and paper documentation.
  • Use test and diagnostic equipment, soldering devices, and hand tools for maintenance and installation.
  • Communicate via telephone, computer, radio and in person with customers and county staff.
  • Successfully install or remove 2-way radios and accessories in public safety vehicles as well as in related equipment rooms in a field environment.
  • Physically climb to various heights and utilize a bucket truck to install, remove, or perform maintenance of antennas, coaxial cables, support hardware associated with towers, poles, and buildings.
  • Operates a bucket truck to perform traffic signal maintenance.
  • Ability to be available and respond to after hours and weekend emergencies for Public Works or our customers.
  • Maintain shop cleanliness and compliance with OSHA safety requirements.
  • Attends required meetings, advise supervisor of maintenance issues.
  • Take part in chemical hazard cleanups according to training given, for road related properties.
  • Participates in basic through advanced incident command training and drills to maintain proficiency in EOC operations. Assumes any position as assigned in the EOC, up to and including command staff. Emergency Management duties may require working long hours outside normal business hours, weekend/holiday work, and may occur with little or no advance notice.
  • Responsible for working safely and following all applicable safety health rules. Worker is responsible for reporting any unsafe condition to supervisor, crew leader or lead worker. Workers are expected to stop work when conditions are unsafe and could lead to significant property damage, serious injury, or death.
  • Other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Requirements for the Position

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

  • Two years of college or technical school course work in electronics, mechanics, computer science, or a related area; AND
  • Two years of experience installing and repairing radio systems; OR
  • Any satisfactory combination of work, education, training, or experience relevant to the position, as determined by Marion County.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must possess a current driver's license in the applicant's state of residence and an acceptable driving history. Marion County will obtain a copy of the driving record for all qualified applicants from Driver and Motor Vehicle Services and review the driving record according to the Marion County policy and procedure for Driving on County Business.   • The finalist for this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check; however, conviction of a crime may not necessarily disqualify an individual for this position.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical examination by a county-appointed medical doctor and have good physical agility.
  • This assignment is represented by a union.
  • This is a full-time, which is eligible for overtime.
  • Work Schedule: Days, 7:00 am - 5:30 pm, Four 10-hour days.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of radio, telephone and electronic theory and repair fundamentals, including solid state, tube and integrated circuits, power generation and electrical circuits is required; FCC rules and regulations applicable to government communications; wireless internet systems; and law enforcement vehicle systems is required.

Skills and abilities to use tools and test equipment to repair, install and service various types of electronic equipment; install and construct equipment from schematic plans and diagrams; direct the work of other employees; advise others in the effective use of radio systems; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other county employees, other agencies, and the public; operate equipment in accordance with FCC rules and regulations; perform work at height up to 265 ft.; complete work within short timeframes; be a self-starter; and work independently with a minimum of direct supervision.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Operates a motor vehicle; sits; stands; moves about the work area; stoops; climbs stairs; crawls on hands and knees; reach overhead; lifts up to 50 lbs.; push/pull/moves carts weighing up to 100 lbs.; carry items up to 40 lbs. for up to 200 feet; operates a keyboard; rapid-mental/hand/eye coordination; clear and audible speaking voice; reads at 12pt. font; distinguish shades/colors; ability to hear at a normal speech level; may be exposed to heat, cold, humidity, dust, smoke, vibration, uneven terrain, noise, wet areas, and chemicals; possible risk of exposure to OSHA Blood/Body Fluids; may traverse ladders and scaffolding.

Work is performed in a shop or field environment. Shop work includes the use of a computer using word processing and e-mail programs or programs specific to the position. Fieldwork includes working in a variety of inclement weather conditions. May be required to work flexible schedules and for long hours under emergency conditions. Physical demands of the position include climbing towers, poles and ladders, and servicing communications equipment outdoors.

PUBLIC SERVICE LOAN FORGIVENESS
Marion County is a qualifying public employer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program, full-time employees working at the County may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan.
