Position: EFL Lead Instructor

Position Summary:

The Phillies are in search of a qualified EFL Lead Instructor to support all EFL education initiatives at the Phillies Academy in Boca Chica. The successful candidate will be dedicated to ensuring our players thrive in their professional and personal lives through language education. Under the supervision of the Coordinator of DR Education, the EFL Lead Instructor will conduct EFL classes, evaluate player and program needs, and foster an overall positive educational environment. It should be noted that professional baseball is a demanding environment and a successful candidate will be able to work to meet the players demands and schedule which can lead to long hours, unpredictable hours and weekend demands.

Responsibilities:

• Teach English classes, following the provided curriculum
• Provide individual and small group tutoring in English and Spanish for players and staff
• Develop creative and engaging lesson plans focused on speaking, listening, reading, writing, life skills, specialized baseball vocabulary, and cultural acclimation
• Create and evaluate educational resources tailored to players' needs
• Utilize technology in the classroom and as a tool for continued learning
• Conduct pre and post testing to assess students' needs, evaluate progress, and identify individual learning objectives
• Observe and support outside workshop presenters with attendance, technology support, and necessary supplies
• Support Coordinator of DR Education in creation of class schedules, educational materials, workshops, and professional development
• Maintain attendance records, student progress reports, and up-to-date lesson plans; submit required reports to Coordinator of DR Education in a timely manner
• Assist with occasional translation sections when needed
• Work closely with coaching staff and player development to understand player on field demands and make English an integrated part of our players development process

Required Qualifications:

• 2-3 years' experience teaching ESL, TESOL, or related subject
• Fluency in English
• Strong communication, organizational, and computer skills
• High level of demonstrated honesty, integrity, and professionalism
• Ability to work irregular hours to meet needs of staff and students
• A passion for teaching and the ability to build a trusting relationship with players
• Have your own transportation, the facility's location in Boca Chica is not accessible via public transportation

Preferred Qualifications:

• Understanding of and passion for the game of baseball
• Experience working with out-of-school youth and other non-traditional students
• Experience teaching occupation-specific language
