POSITION SUMMARY:
Morning Star Youth Academy is seeking an Education Director to be responsible for the coordination and supervision of the educational program. This position serves as the instructional leader for all teaching staff and is responsible for the total operation of the school including the administration and supervision of the instructional program and management of a small group home in Woolford, Maryland
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The Director of Education shall provide leadership, administrative, and supervisory skills for the educational development of students as well as to promote parent and community involvement.

Must have extensive knowledge of learning programs, laws, regulations, and interpretations regarding education and student and staff due process.

Must possess knowledge of teaching methods and considerable ability as an administrator and instructional leader.

Experience in implementing the principles and trends in education, curriculum, staff development, essential elements of instruction and clinical supervision.

The ability to motivate and supervise a diverse group of teachers, and thorough knowledge of residential treatment programs.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Education, Administration, or a related field.

Or Bachelor’s Degree in Education and five years of teaching experience with demonstrated proficiency in working with troubled youths preferred.

Must meet requirements for state education certification.
QUALIFICATIONS:
-
Must be 21 years of age or older.

Cleared background checks from appropriate entities.

Shall hold a valid Maryland professional certificate as an elementary or secondary supervisor or principal, or a valid Maryland professional teaching certificate in elementary or secondary education.

An education director qualifying with a valid Maryland professional teaching certificate shall also have at least 3 years of satisfactory teaching experience as verified by former employers.

The teaching experience shall be in general or special education, or both, as appropriate for the education director's assignment.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

May lift and carry up to 10 pounds frequently, up to 20 pounds occasionally, up to 50 pounds infrequently.

Performs tasks that may involve standing or walking 50% of the day; sitting 50%of the day.

May bend, stoop, reach and grasp as necessary.
