Education Coordinator Job at Iowa Central Community College
The Corrections Education Coordinator is responsible for the oversight of the Corrections Education Department at the Fort Dodge Correctional Facility. Duties include supervising the Corrections Education teachers, developing, implementing, recording, and coordinating all educational activities within the prisons as required by the Iowa Department of Corrections and Iowa Central Community College. Duties will also include teaching incarcerated individuals, development of curriculum, methods of instruction, assessment, and maintenance of records.
Constant (67-100%)
- Provide on site supervision for Adult Education teachers.
- Serve as a liaison between the Corrections Education Department and the Adult Education Department on campus to ensure alignment with program benchmarks and expectations.
- Process and approve all administrative and purchasing documents necessary for the operation of the educational programs and monitor annual operating budget.
- Evaluate and make necessary adjustments to the instructional activities within the education programs.
- Work cooperatively with the facility corrections staff in adhering to DOC and facility security rules and procedures.
- Update, develop, and maintain appropriate course guidelines enabling instructor to plan appropriate classroom and individualized instruction.
- Oversee the annual Correction Education Association documentation for three-year accreditation audits.
- Attend facility management meetings.
- Oversee maintenance of all student electronic and hard copy recordkeeping and student files.
- Oversee evaluation of students’ progress involving CASAS, HiSET testing, and other classroom assessment tools.
- Effectively organize and teach individualize and/or group coursework in accordance with student needs and established program objectives.
- Maintain a positive and appropriate learning environment.
- Organize and present various concepts to a wide variety of students with varying backgrounds and abilities and adjust teaching techniques accordingly.
Frequent (34-66%)
- Oversee preparation of monthly, quarterly, and year-end reports for the North Central Correctional Facility and Iowa Central Community College.
- Explore and provide staff development activities for the corrections education staff.
- Counsel individual students on disciplinary and performance issues.
- Counsel and advise offenders on post-secondary options, financial aid opportunities, and career choices.
- Oversee implementation of vocational programs as funding allows.
- Approve and maintain education staff leaves and non-work day records.
- Submit monthly invoicing to DOC Central office.
- Maintain enrollment, class schedules, and attendance records.
- Direct and monitor computer aided instruction.
- Organize and implement various short-term vocational classes.
Occasional (10-33%)
- Participate in professional development activities and attend specialized educational workshops.
- Conduct regular educational staff meetings and attend quarterly DOC Coordinator meetings.
- Prepare the annual operating budget.
- Complete annual evaluations of education staff members.
- Prepare education staff annual work calendars.
- Prepare applications for Title 1, Carl Perkins, and other annual grant funds and complete necessary annual reports.
- Prepare for scheduled Title 1, Carl Perkins, and CEA accreditation audits as necessary.
- Oversee preparation and conducting of semi-annual HiSET, College and Vocational graduation ceremonies at the facilities.
- Fulfill occasional community and facility speaking engagements.
- Participate in college quality improvement process.
- Plan, approve, and process expenses for department staff travel.
- Other duties as assigned.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field. Master’s in Education or related field preferred.
Must satisfy a Department of Corrections background security screening.
