    (The start date for new teachers is August 14, 2023. New teachers will attend additional professional development days at the beginning and during the first year of employment.)

    Required Qualifications:
    • Current MN teaching license in Early Childhood Special Education or related services area and 3-5 years of experience in ECSE
    • Skilled in culturally responsive teaching

    • Skilled at learning strategies- using multiple approaches when learning or teaching new things.
    • Skilled at active listening- listening to what other people are saying and asking questions as appropriate.
    • Skilled in social perceptiveness—being aware of others’ reactions and understanding why they react the way they do.
    • Knowledge of instructional methods and training techniques including curriculum design principles, learning theory, group and individual teaching techniques, design of individual plans, and test design principles.
    • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
    • Knowledge of human behavior and performance, mental processes, psychological research methods, and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
    • Knowledge of numbers, their operations, and interrelationships including arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.

    Responsibilities:
    • Primary Functions:
      • Attend weekly child study meetings and provide guidance for appropriate special education placement and programming for students
      • Collaborate with the Part C team to determine which students will be transitioning at age 3 and provide classroom placement
      • Provide due process support to staff
      • Create caseloads, determine number of sections needed for special programming, and support student scheduling
      • Coordinate Kindergarten transition; schedule meetings, attend necessary meetings, and help determine the next appropriate placement/setting for students
      • Serve as Administrative designee at IEP meetings
      • Ensure that all components of IFSP/IEP programming are addressed
      • Review due process paperwork to ensure MDE compliance on IFSPs and IEPs
      • Support the Continuous Improvement Monitoring Process
      • Provide professional development around due process when patterns of non-compliance are determined through IEP review
      • Other duties as assigned
    • Instructional Leadership Support
      • Complete informal student observations, provide feedback and facilitates reflection around classroom routines with staff, procedures, strategies, learning tasks, assessment and materials
      • Engage in reflection with the building instructional leadership team on instructional and coaching practices, sharing best practices, problem-solving issues and planning the building’s professional learning opportunities
      • Collaborate with early learning coordinators and leads; plan and present professional development opportunities and provide resources to improve teacher performance and student achievement
      • Coach teachers on the development of unit and lesson plans to include instructional activities that facilitate the development of students’ ability to think critically
    • Strategic Leadership Support
      • Communicate and support a shared vision of special education services
      • Assist with the development of a collaborative culture by leading the special education department meetings
      • Attend SELT meetings and ensure that information is disseminated to building level staff in a timely manner
      • Support administration in the hiring of special education staff
      • Provide a special education voice to building administrators
      • Support district level initiatives related to student services
    • Student Engagement
      • Support interventions by providing pre-referral support
      • Support behavioral processing for students with special education as needed
      • Work with building leadership and behavior teams to ensure behavior support plans are available and followed
      • Provide student supervision during high need times as time permits
    • Collaboration
      • Support teams by problem solving challenging behavior
      • Child find collaboration
      • Assist with the transition of incoming and outgoing students with special education
    • Data Analysis and Guidance
      • Provide guidance to improve instructional practices and through the modes of co-planning, co-teaching, and modeling effective instructional practices for teachers
      • Participate in PLC’s to create learning goals and instructional goals based on various data sources
      • Review TS GOLD and COS Data and determine programmatic goals
    • Progress Monitoring
      • Ensure up to date and accurate records of the building’s special education records connected to individual learner goals
      • Ensure special education teachers monitor student progress and make instructional decisions based on progress
      • Convene regularly with the special education department to review student progress data and develop instructional plans based on achievement data
    • Managerial Tasks
      • Maintain and update class list spreadsheet
      • Be involved in building level and programmatic leadership meetings
