POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Scientific Affairs will manage the development of scientific strategies and execution to support the organizations full product portfolio, inclusive of Business to Business and Direct channels. This Director will be an SME and lead the organizations team of SMEs.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Director will participate and lead a team of individuals (Scientific Affair Specialists) who will be responsible for the following:
- Maintain strong relationships with customers and physicians, acting as the scientific face of the organization.
- Provide scientific and clinical support for organization's products.
- Manage key thought leadership relationships, fostering mutually productive relationships across in the areas of medical, education, clinical research, and/or Health Economics and Outcomes.
- Ensure that products are used effectively, serve as scientific resources and experts, and provide input about relevant scientific and clinical data.
- Deliver technical/scientific presentations to diverse audiences on RTI products, develop publication plans, identify messages for scientific communications based on clinical data, and present educational and safety information.
- Provide scientific and technical support for assigned products; deliver scientific presentations; develops and maintains professional and credible relationships with customers and Key Opinion leaders; provide relevant scientific and technical training.
- Attending conferences and talks, presenting information to product teams, and communicating products to physicians and other healthcare professionals.
- Work collaboratively with R&D, Marketing, and Commercial teams. This position and team will be critical in helping RTI Surgical maximize the amount of patients served while maintaining a high level of quality and safety.
- Collaborate with legal, compliance, and commercial committee members to guarantee that proposed promotional tactics and programs and educational materials comply with applicable regulations and policies.
- Participates and consults with the internal and external scientific and medical community to maintain a state-of-the-art knowledge for application to achieving successful experimental outcomes.
- Keeps abreast of current technologies and competitor products in area of specialty including that of the allograft, xenograft, and synthetic fields in a diverse range of clinical applications.
- Establish and perform technical training for the organization, inclusive of commercial and marketing on scientific/technical information of both RTI products and processes.
- Acts as an additional resource for technical questions and troubleshooting.
- Acts as a liaison between field teams and clinical/R&D.
- Assist with clinical study site selection, set up, enrollment and study maintenance
- Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- MS/PhD degree preferred with previous experience leading a Scientific/Medical Affairs team
- Previous leadership experience of junior level scientists/engineers in an external facing role
- Minimum 10 years medical or scientific experience with 3-5 years industry experience
- Industry, product development and customer knowledge required
Physical Requirements:
Light work: Physically handle objects up to 20 lbs. occasionally.
