Director of Human Resources Job at Diocese of Camden
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Camden, which serves the South Jersey community through faith, education
and social services, is seeking an experienced human resource professional to serve as Director of Human
Resources.
Under the leadership of Most Reverend Dennis J. Sullivan, D.D., eighth bishop of Camden, the Diocese of
Camden serves approximately 475,000 Catholics in 62 parishes and approximately 10,000 school students at
29 Catholic elementary and high schools in Atlantic, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem
Counties.
The Director of Human Resources provides overall strategic leadership in all areas of human resources through
the ongoing development and implementation of policies, programs and services that contribute to the mission
of the Diocese of Camden. The role provides consultation and assistance to diocesan leadership and
employees, as well as pastors, business managers, principals and parish employees in all human resource
matters. Ultimately, these efforts are undertaken for the primary purpose to effectively support and promote
the Roman Catholic faith in Southern New Jersey via the following responsibilities, and others as necessary:
- Plan and direct programs for all areas of HR including employee relations, labor relations,
- Resolve employee relations issues that involve performance management; investigate, mediate and
- Implement recruitment and retention strategies, practices and procedures for acquiring and
- Act as Plan Administrator for diocesan pension and retirement plans
- Administer the self-insured diocesan health plans
- Oversee vendor management: evaluation of services, new vendor searches and requests for
- Advise, consult, and coordinate with senior management on organizational plans, company polices,
- Visit locations as needed to provide on-site consulting, investigations, and HR services
- Represent management in negotiating and interpreting collective bargaining agreements
- Direct the compensation strategy; analyze compensation policies, related regulations, and establish
- Supervise, train, develop, mentor, and evaluate staff on a regularly basis
- Provide advice, recommendations and direction to ensure legal compliance
- Strategically plan, coordinate, and implement HR related systems, programs and activities
- Design, develop, and implement HR programs and processes
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Convenes the chancery’s benefits and compensation committee
- Oversee the mailroom operations, resources and staff
- Maintains diocesan vehicles to ensure compliance with motor vehicle requirements and safe
- Lead efforts for safety and fire
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and/or Experience:
- Practicing Catholic in good standing
- Understanding of Catholic culture, structures, parish life, ministries, and roles
- Bachelor degree required, MBA preferred
- Ten or more years of HR leadership experience; progressive managerial experience with at least five
- Demonstrated business acumen and balance HR perspective on business realities
- Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state HR laws, regulations and guidelines
- Excellent organization, communication, interpersonal and relationship management skills
- Proven ability to lead a multi-location organization
- HR experience in a union environment a plus, but not a requirement.
