Position Summary

The Director of Flight Crew Training is primarily responsible for administration of all crewmember training programs and activities. A successful Director of Flight Crew Training can effectively track and monitor crew member training status’, resolve SMS reports, and train Thrive Aviation Pilots on emergency equipment and the preflight/postflight duties. Though this is a non-flying position, a Director of Training who is typed on an aircraft within Thrive’s fleet may also be utilized as a First Officer or Captain and be required to follow the duties and responsibilities of those roles as well.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Administration of all crewmember training programs and activities.
  • Construct, revise, and maintain the company Training Manual.
  • Assist the Chief Pilot in the hiring process for new crew members.
  • Coordinate and conduct crewmember initial, recurrent, aircraft performance, CRM, international, and other special subjects training.
  • Conduct training in the Thrive operations specifications and GOM.
  • Courseware development.
  • Track and monitor crew member training status to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Facilitate and monitor on-line distance learning.
  • Manage progress of all pilots in various phases of training.
  • Conduct on-aircraft training for location and use of all emergency equipment and the preflight and postflight duties associated with all cabin furnishings.
  • Explore alternative techniques, equipment, and programs to ensure company programs are current and effective in regard to industry standards.
  • Oversight of contract training providers and other vendors to include regular audits.
  • Submission of all required FAA reports, requests for contract training provider additions, deletions, and audit reports.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Safety and Chief Pilot on the resolution of SMS reports that require follow-up training with crew members.
  • Anticipate our customers’ needs and strive to exceed their expectations.
  • Comply with FAA regulations, Thrive’s GOM, Operational Specifications, and adhere to department operating procedures.
  • Maintain communications and coordination with assigned crew, dispatch, maintenance, and administration.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Chief Pilot, Director of Operations, and/or other members of Senior Leadership

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform required duties.

  • Must have and maintain FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
  • Must be able to maintain the seated position in a small space for an extended period.
  • Must be able to be physically active for a majority of the workday during indoc and ground school training
  • Employee must be able to list up to 50 pounds without assistance

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee will encounter while in a Flight Crew position.

  • The work is often split between working in an office environment and working outside and/or at Thrive’s hangar. The hangar will subject the employee to outdoor weather conditions such as extreme heat, cold, wind, and rain in a non-temperature controlled environment.
  • In the event the Director of Training is also utilized as a Pilot for the company, the following may also apply
  • Employee will interact with the customer and other flight crew in a small space.
  • Employee may be required to spend several days away from home each week while working.
  • Employee may have irregular hours and be called to fly or notified of canceled flights with little notice.

Experience & Qualifications

The most successful candidate in the position will meet most, if not all, of the following criteria.

  • ATP/CTP/Written preferred
  • Commercial Pilot license.
  • Flight Instructor Certificate preferred.
  • Ground Instructor Advanced/Instrument preferred.
  • Experience as an Aviation Subjects Matter Instructor
  • 4-year degree from an accredited university in an applicable field is preferred
  • Minimum 4 years 14CFR135 or 121 experience
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft office and/or Google Suite products
  • Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Permit
  • FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
  • Valid US Passport (must not be expired)
  • Current type rating in our fleet is desired
  • The ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and willing to take on new challenges as the company grows.
