The Division of Child Protection Services is looking for an individual that is committed to service, provides attention to detail, has excellent communication and organizational skills and is dedicated to securing child safety, serving families and achieving permanency for children and families.
This position will supervise staff and organize, monitor, and administer broad program areas within the scope of child welfare to include ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations, laws, and budgetary requirements; oversee and administer programs and grants; serve as a liaison to share information across interdepartmental and interdisciplinary teams and workgroups; and effectively communicates regarding various philosophies, communication styles, and goals of the Division and Department.
The position will provide oversight to all CPS field operations. Successful candidates will be innovative and assist the Department of Social Services, Division of Child Protection in program enhancements necessary to best serve the children and families of South Dakota.
This position is exempt from the Civil Service Act; and this position requires occasional in and out-of-state travel including evenings, nights, and weekends.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Degree in social work, psychology, counseling, public administration, criminal justice or other human service related field with at least five years of administrative and/or supervisory experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- managerial, administrative, and supervisory principles and practices;
- budget practices and procedures;
- techniques related to effective and efficient project development, implement, measure outcomes; adjust as necessary
- the legislative process and procedures;
- state and federal statutes and administrative rules related to child welfare
- policy and procedure development
Skill to:
- provide effective and efficient written communication;
- effectively motivate others to meet Department and Division goals;
- display confidence and innovation despite adversity;
- exercise independent judgment within established guidelines;
- task and time management.
Ability to:
- establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships and demonstrate compassion, respect, courtesy, and tact when interacting with others;
- actively listen, elicit needed information, and communicate information effectively and accurately both orally and in writing;
- interpret and apply administrative rules and program guidelines;
- develop and implement administrative policies and procedures and evaluate individual and team efficiency and effectiveness;
- assume initiative with minimal supervision;
- gather and analyze data; reason logically and accurately; and solve problems using common sense, reasoning, and resourcefulness;
- prepare clear and concise documentation, reports, and correspondence which reflect relevant facts;
- motivate and provide effective leadership and management to staff.
