Class Title: Director of AthleticsDepartment: School Classification: Administrator 183 days (plus 20 additional days)Immediate Supervisor: Superintendent of Schools &/or Principal CLASS DESCRIPTION: The Athletic Director represents East Providence School Department in matters pertaining to school athletics including selection of athletic coaches and assistant coaches, supervising the maintenance of fields, use of physical trainers and may need to vote at meetings pertaining to athletics at local, conference and state levels. When representing the school, the Athletic Directors vote should represent the thinking of the majority of the district administrations, school administration and the athletic staff to the extent possible. Supervision Received: This position reports directly to the Superintendent of Schools with input from the Middle & High School Principals.Supervision Exercised: This position supervises all athletic coaches and assistant coaches.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Coordinate overall athletic program (including cheerleading) and coaching staff.2.

Submit a list to the Principal of the anticipated needs of the athletic program and anticipated needs in each sport, and to see that each coach has the requested and approved equipment by the time specified.3. Coordinate expenditures so that each sport remains within the designated budgetary limits.4. Prepare and administer the annual Athletic budget.5. Supervise and evaluate the coaching staff.6.

Coordinate all athletic scheduling, including the interscholastic athletic program; send schedules to proper sources including building Administrator, RIIL, Superintendent, Faculty, & Parents.7. Supervise the maintenance of athletic equipment to ensure that the equipment meets safety standards.8. Maintain athletic reports, i.e. inventories, financial records, eligibility list, team rosters, evaluations, correspondence, records and blueprints of facilities.9.

Supervise the preparation of facilities for athletic activities.10. Supervise ticket sales.11. Ensure funds received from events are properly accounted for and submitted for deposit to the finance department.12. Prepare eligibility and insurance lists.13.

Secure officials and police for home athletic games.14. Arrange for team transportation for away games.15. Coordinate school-sponsored athletic banquet(s), and awards program for all athletic programs.16. Handle matters in a way that will improve, strengthen, and increase athletic participation in the school district.17.

Keep the Principal informed and communicate about pertinent matters.18. Ensure that students-athletes, student trainers, managers, scorekeepers, cheerleaders, etc. are enrolled in the accident insurance program or have waiver forms signed by legal guardian.19. In collaboration with the Director of Operations, coordinate the use of athletic facilities by non-school or community groups.20.

Attend all home athletic events unless prior agreement has been reached with the High School Principal.21. Facilitate the pre-season sports meeting that parents and/or guardians of school athletes are required to attend to review team rules.22. Work closely with the facilities director to ensure all necessary preparation and clean-up of school facilities is timely and complete.23. Managing the district's Special Olympics programs 24.

Managing RIIL coaching certification compliance25. In collaboration with the building principal, approve team fundraising activities and expenditures.26. Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal of East Providence High School. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES: Emphasizes the proper ideals of sportsmanship, ethical conduct, and fair play.

Stresses the values derived from playing fairly. Be cordial to the visiting team and officials Achieves a thorough understanding and acceptance of the standards of eligibility for each sport. Encourages leadership, use of initiative, and good judgment by the coaches and players on the team. Recognizes that the purpose of athletics is to promote the physical, mental, moral, social, and emotional wellbeing of the individual players.

Physically capable of lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds alone and 50 pounds with support. Capable of walking, running, climbing and descending steps. Demonstrates basic computer skills including but not limited to Google Docs and Gmail.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience Bachelors Degree, Certified Teacher Eligible R.I.D.E. Coaching Certification Work toward certification as an Athletic Administrator Coaching Experience Teaching Experience PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
