Reporting to the Vice President, Total Rewards and HR Operations, the successful candidate will champion and support the employee experience by fostering an environment of engagement, respect and inclusion. The
North America Director of Labor & Employee Relations will deliver high quality employee and labor relations counsel and the capability to develop proactive solutions while building stakeholder relationships across the U.S. and Canada. This leader will ensure equitable resolutions to employee issues, play a key role in compliance and risk mitigation and will partner closely with other global HR leaders, Employment Counsel, and internal stakeholders to develop comprehensive plans and strategies to ensure optimal outcomes. You will oversee the development and implementation of labor relations programs, represent the organization on labor relations matters, and strategize long-term projects to focus on positive employee relations. A key components of this role includes overseeing negotiations of collective bargaining agreements and building a clear, sustainable strategy while advancing the organization’s commitment to maintaining a diverse, fair and inclusive work environment built on mutual respect and integrity. This position requires a passion for employee and labor relations work and the ideal candidate will be able to collaborate and influence at all levels of the organization.

- Leads the North America Labor and Employee Relations teams including oversight of and/or direct participation in U.S. and Canada labor and employee relations issues.
- Serves as a strategic partner to HR Leadership and HR COEs to identify organizational needs, workforce trends, best practices and develops a labor and employee relations strategy aligned to business objectives and overall employee experience.
- Sets the strategic vision and ensures alignment of contract negotiation objectives resulting in collective bargaining agreements (CBAs) that support operational and HR goals.
- Leads complex and highly sensitive workplace investigations using risk mitigation strategies
- Provides practical advice on sensitive issues including, but not limited to, leading investigations, performance management consultation, conflict management, interpretation of policies or CBA language, and identifying coaching and development opportunities.
- Responds to allegations of improper conduct or policies from government agencies, including but not limited to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Department of Labor and corresponding state agencies; including production of documents and preparation of leaders or subject matter experts as witnesses at hearings and mediations.
- Interfaces proactively and builds relationships with union officials to anticipate potential labor relations issues
- Establishes methodology to collect and assess employee experience data, themes, trends and provide actionable recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Works in partnership with other ADM investigative groups (Security, Audit, Compliance) and ensures all North America employee and labor relations matters are handled consistent with ADM’s internal investigations required protocol.
- Provides leadership and expertise in the development of future long-term and short-term planning initiatives and overall goals, objectives, and priorities for the function.
- Provides coaching and leadership to employee relations and labor relations partners on addressing employee disputes, investigations, and maintaining a positive work environment.
- Directs comprehensive, proactive, strategic HR services, including employee policy development & administration, documentation and implementation, onboarding, HR metrics, and legal compliance.
- Forges positive relationships with employees and leaders by ensuring that employee relations issues are addressed in a comprehensive and collaborative manner.
- Advocates for fair & appropriate workplace practices in accordance with mission and values within legal parameters.
- Travels regularly to U.S. and Canada sites.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Behavior, Industrial and Labor Relations, or related field or equivalent work experience; Master’s degree or JD equivalent preferred
- 15+ years of progressively responsible experience in labor and employee relations principles and practices including collective bargaining within a large, complex, diverse organization with large hourly workforce and 24/7 operations; manufacturing or distribution industry experience helpful
- 10+ years of people leader experience and demonstrated leadership/management skills with a successful history of building high-performing teams and creating sound employee and labor relations strategies
- 10+ years performing investigations, compiling documentation, conducting research and leading arbitration and mediation activities
- 10+ years demonstrated experience in service center operating models, business process improvement and business consulting helpful
- 10+ years deploying large and small scale reductions in force, including but not limited to, statistical analysis and compliance with applicable laws
- Strong technical knowledge of U.S. federal, state, and local employment laws. Experience with Canadian law preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in integrating Diversity, Equity and Inclusion goals and solutions into the employee relations strategy and programs
- Ability to prepare clear, concise, accurate and persuasive reports, correspondence, analytical studies and other written materials to a wide range of audiences.
- Ability to negotiate, counsel, mediate conflict and facilitate effective communications; Demonstrated experience with human resources matters, including, but not limited to, Equal Employment Opportunity, diversity, equity and inclusion, positive employee relations and engagement, safety & health, compensation & benefits, training & talent development, and
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, collaboration technologies (e.g., MS Teams, Zoom), SuccessFactors
