Director, Fleet Job at Henkels & McCoy
Primary Function
Manage and improve the company’s fleet operations for MasTec West; California, Oregon, Washington, Hawaii, Colorado, Montana, Utah, Wyoming, Arizona, and Nevada. Success in this role will result in a high-performing fleet team that provides safe, productive vehicles and equipment that cost-effectively supports operations.
Scope
The Director will work with the MasTec West executive team to develop a fleet strategy to support the company’s goals and maximize profitability. The Director is responsible for the company’s equipment cost and utilization, supervising equipment personnel, allocating equipment and personnel resources to support operations, and implementing and enforcing Company policies and procedures. This position also has overall responsibility for budget preparation and oversight.

Job Responsibilities
- Personnel
- Nurture and maintain a robust communication network with the MasTec West enterprise team
- Organize and lead in-person fleet meetings for training and team building
- Training to include:
- DOT, OHSA, ANSI, and Safety Compliance Seminars
- Mechanic training on specialized equipment
- Mechanic training on new products
- Report analysis and interpretation
- Fleet management training
- Equipment accounting
- Monitor and enforce Corporate Programs and Policies
- Proper use of fuel management card
- Scheduled Maintenance (PM Program)
- Safety Inspections
- Policy Compliance
- Company Goals
- Fleet Management

- Monitor equipment usage via reports and worksite inspections
- Ensure efficient and effective scheduling of maintenance services to minimize vehicle downtime and expense while ensuring work is performed according to Company standards and regulations
- Leveraging our GPS/Telematic platforms to measure and enhance the fleet performance
- Identify the best option to fill equipment needs, rent or owned equipment
- Utilize National Rental Accounts
- Ensure that the size and composition of the fleet meet the needs of the users in the various lines of work
- Remove excess equipment from the fleet for reassignment or disposal
- Monitor and review equipment P/L reports
- Perform equipment inventory at a minimum, annually
- Work with operations to determine the best equipment specification to fit their application based on economy and productivity
- Make acquisition, rental, and disposition recommendations
- Create an equipment budget for replacements, deletions, and additions
- Assess the impact of new legislation on fleet operations to include fuel consumption penalties which may impact the types of vehicles purchased
- Ensure Compliance with Federal and State requirements
- DOT, OSHA, and ANSI regulations
- Other duties as assigned

4. Ensure Compliance with Federal and State requirements

Qualifications
- To successfully perform the assigned duties, a Director should have the following education, experience, and skills:
- High school diploma
- College experience, business concentration preferred
- 10 years of direct progressive experience in fleet operations or 15 years of related experience
- Ability to quickly analyze fleet data and convert it to meaningful actions or recommendations
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written
- A high-level thinker who has a proven track record of working with executive leaders
- Strong working knowledge of the design and operation of construction, utility, and transportation equipment
- Interpersonal relationship skills in supervision, motivation, teaching, and coaching
- Strong background in computers and information technology
- Membership in a professional industry organization such as NAFA, AEMP, or EUFMC helpful
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record throughout employment
