Overall description:

We have an opening for a Biomarker Lead with expertise in the development, execution and oversight of biomarker plans for assets in oncology clinical development. The Biomarker Lead will be responsible for designing and implementing biomarker strategies for Arcus’s clinical pipeline with a focus on assets in preclinical development transitioning to early development. The role requires demonstrated expertise in biomarker discovery, development, analysis and data interpretation with an ability to integrate scientific and disease specific contexts. The successful applicant will have the strong communication and leadership skills needed to build relationships with key stakeholders bridging research and development.

Job duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop high quality translational strategies to include patient selection, pharmacodynamic, mechanism of action/resistance, prognostic and other clinically relevant biomarkers
  • Oversee the execution of strategies and delivering biomarker results to internal and external stakeholders while working collaboratively with Biology, Clinical/Medical Science, Biometrics, Bioinformatics, Clinical Operations, and others
  • Establish and lead cross functional biomarker teams providing expertise, driving decisions as well as enabling execution
  • Author and present biomarker strategies at project teams, review forums, and to external groups
  • Responsible for authoring the biomarker sections of clinical protocols and regulatory documents

The chosen candidate will have a PhD, MD or equivalent in a relevant scientific field such as immuno-oncology, oncology or immunology. 15+ years of relevant industry experience to include at least 8 years leading biomarker programs for Ph1, and preferably Ph2 and Ph3, trials in addition to:

  • Strong background in translational research in preclinical and clinical settings
  • Experience developing biomarker assays across a broad range of platform technologies (e.g. NGS, IHC, PCR, FISH, flow cytometry) and their clinical application
  • Using PD biomarker data to guide dose selection, and leverage genomic and multiomic approaches to identify predictive biomarker for drug response/resistance
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in drug development and leading teams


This role is based at our Hayward, CA location and on-site is highly preferred. May consider a non local candidate for hybrid schedule with minimum of 2 weeks per month on-site. The anticipated salary range for fully qualified candidates applying for this position is $190,000 - $221,000. For remote-based candidates, the salary range may vary based on local market data. Factors such as relevant experience, education, duration of experience, and length of industry experience will influence the actual salary offered.
