At Achieva, our Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) provide direct care and personal support to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a community setting while following Chapter 6400 Regulations and the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services standards. They ensure the health, safety, and welfare of the people supported. These positions report to the Community Living Supervisor.
DSPs here at Achieva have an opportunity to positively impact the people we support lives in a number of ways! Assisting with completing vital medical appointments and follow-ups; learning about their community; providing opportunities for and participating in recreational activities, and assisting people with direct personal care, such as activities of daily living, are all vital parts of this role. DSPs support the achievement of people's personal outcomes in the following ways:
Responsibilities:
1. Provide direct care supports to people with intellectual or developmental disabilities and specialized care in daily living, social, and recreational activities.
2. Serves as a model of appropriate language, dress, and behavior.
3. Implements the Department's Policies and Procedures (P&P) relative to Community Homes.
4. Implements formal and informal outcome plans to assist the person in achieving their personal outcomes.
5. Adheres to the appropriate procedures in the event of a crisis situation. Follows instructions given by the Supervisor. Contacts the appropriate people, both professionals and family as directed.
6. Communicates and resolves program and individual concerns with the Community Homes Supervisor on a regular basis. Participates in general staff meetings.
7. Participates in various committees and workgroups as requested or assigned.
8. Distributes individual funds, obtains and submits receipts, and assists with banking as advised.
9. · Administer medications (upon completion of certification; all necessary training is provided).
10. Assists with the maintenance and upkeep of the home.
11. Transports people as assigned in a safe and timely manner.
12. Completes tasks and assignments as advised.
13. Performs other related duties as assigned. In addition to paying for federal and state clearances, Achieva offers 24 hours of training, annually, relevant to Human Services. In addition, we have implemented Medication Administration training, which would need to be completed successfully. This training assists our DSPs in ensuring all prescribed medication is dispensed and documented per P&P in partnership with the individual.

Qualifications:
The equivalent of a High School Diploma is required. The ability to complete one-person transfers is required. One year of related experience is preferred. Reliable transportation is essential. A valid driver's license is preferred. Must meet Act 33 and 34 requirements.
