Position Overview

The mission of the Illinois Council on Developmental Disabilities (ICDD) is “We help lead change in Illinois so all people with developmental disabilities exercise their right to equal opportunity and freedom”. We are seeking to hire a Developmental Disabilities Training and Event Program Specialist to help us achieve this mission by overseeing a portfolio of projects dedicated to individual and family advocacy and systems change. Additionally, the incumbent will be instrumental in assisting ICDD in implementing the goals and objectives within the 5-Year State Plan.

Job Responsibilities

1. Manages, coordinates and oversees multiple Council training projects and programs

2. Develops and implements a communication strategy that includes media outreach and social media content creation

3. Advises and monitors subgrantees to ensure they understand and comply with project requirements

4. Serves as an ICDD Program Specialist and as a lead staff member for specific State Plan activities

5. Represents the agency on internal and external work groups, committees and tasks forces and makes recommendations to supervisor or Director for Council action

6. Conducts research and provides staff support to assigned Council standing committees

7. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above

Minimum Qualifications

1. Requires three years of experience related to developmental disabilities (DD)
2. Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to (4) four years of college.

Preferred Qualifications

1. 2 years of experience related to developmental disabilities (DD)
2. 3 years of experience developing and implementing a communication strategy that includes media outreach and social media content creation.
3. 1 year of experience creating and implementing communication campaigns.
4. 1 years of experience managing and facilitating training programs and events.
5. 1 year of experience with grants specifically related to the monitoring activity, ensuring grant requirements are met, and compliance reporting.
6. 1 year of experience contributing to the process of creating a strategic plan.
7. 1 year of experience analyzing, evaluating, and developing a long-term organizational plan.
8. 1 year of experience managing long-term projects and optimizing processes to enhance project efficiency.
9. 1 year of experience conducting research and writing summary reports from findings.
10. 1 year of experience preparing briefings and position papers regarding fiscal or programmatic matters.
11. 1 year of experience researching and analyzing data to implement policy changes.
12. 1 year of experience creating presentations and presenting in formal settings.
13. Basic proficiency or above with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook.
14. Bachelor’s degree or higher with course work in Disability Studies, Disability/Human Development, Human Services Administration, Public Policy, Rehabilitation Counseling/Admin, Social Work, Sociology, Special Education, Vocational Rehabilitation Services, Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
15. 1 year of experience developing stakeholder networks to assist your organization with achieving its mission.
