As a Development Inspector with the Town of Holly Springs you will be a part of a team of professionals that focuses on the planning, engineering review and construction of land development projects in a growing and dynamic community. Your role as a Development Inspector will be to perform technical work including inspecting infrastructure construction in progress and upon completion of construction.

The Development Inspector position is a part of the recently formed Development Services Department that brings together planners, engineers, development inspectors and building code officials to promote collaboration, innovation, and efficiency for the development process. The work schedule for this position is business hours with occasional nights and weekends.
Position Information
The Development Inspector (I/II) is a career ladder position and could be filled as a Development Inspector I or II depending on the chosen candidates’ qualifications or provide opportunities to advance within the position to a Development Inspector II as the required metrics are completed. - The Development Inspector I position is the entry-level for this position.This position performs professional- level inspection assignments and receives considerable supervision from the Development Inspections Supervisor. The salary grade for this position starts at $56,451.20
- The Development Inspector II position requires several courses, certifications and experience such as minimum of 3 years of direct experience, Collections 1, Distribution C, OSHA 10 Hour Safety, OSHA Shoring, ITRE Transportation class, Holly Springs skills tests.The Development Inspector II is expected to work more independently than a Development Inspector I, receiving general supervision from the Development Inspections Supervisor. The salary grade for this position starts at $63,419.20
What you will bring to our Development Services Team:
- A two-year degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering & Management or related field; 4-year degree preferred.
- Experience in work with water, sewer, reclaim water and roadways. Inspection experience preferred.
- Knowledge and/or experience with utilizing Engineering Design and Construction Standards.
- Ability to complete multiple projects of varying complexity.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Strong organizational, verbal and written communication skills
- A valid NC Driver’s License
What you will be doing:
- Perform technical work including inspections of infrastructure construction to verify accuracy with approved plans and verification of the installed infrastructure is per the Town’s Engineering Design and Construction Standards and other town ordinances.
- Inspections of water, reclaimed water, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, roads and site work and testing of the infrastructure.
- Recommend updates to the town’s standards and policies consistent with current construction practices and industry standards
- Provide customer service to assist the development community and design professionals with information, processes, and technical guidance
- Coordinate with state and federal agencies for consistency in processes and implementation of regulations
- Exercise judgment and provide independent action including frequent contacts with citizens, engineers and developers.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational support functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, crouching, standing, walking, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
- Must be able to perform light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
- Must possess the visual acuity to compile and compute data and statistics, inspect maps and plans, operate a computer, do extensive reading, and use measuring devices.
