Millerbernd is continuing to grow and we are adding a Director of Engineering - New Product Development, to our team! The Director of Engineering will lead new product development (NPD) for our Ring and Cylinder Business Unit, manufacturing engineering and in-process quality teams to achieve business unit goals. This position requires an excellent understanding of engineering practices and principles. This is a 100% onsite role based in Winsted, Minnesota.

What will I be doing?

Leadership of New Product Development

• Manage New Product Development (NPD) Engineers and intercompany relationships
• Establishes and is accountable for annual new product goals
• Takes an active role in (NPD) integration with our customers; ensures we have win-win relationships
• Approves expenditures, monitors the budget and reports monthly variances
• Operates in a collaborative environment within the R&C business unit
• Develops team member engagement through positive feedback
• Evaluate NPD business cases for acceptance based on equipment and process capabilities
• Take a hands-on approach to NPD projects and products

• 
  Manage Manufacturing Engineers to support NPD initiatives
• Improves production processes and flow
• Understand Production equipment capabilities
• Oversee quotations of new or used equipment to increase Production capacity
• Lead new process creation based on continuous improvement
• Contributes to the development of operating concepts, processes and guidelines

• 
  Manage Quality Supervisor and Inspectors to meet daily inspection requirements
• Understand inspection tools and be able to determine if inspection needs require new or different equipment
• Create and present inspection reports to internal and external customers
• Able to understand how products fit into customer applications

• 
  Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or similar, Master’s degree preferred but not required
• Technical leadership including New Product introductions
• Experience leading a team of direct reports
• Experience operating in a fast-paced growth business and/or demonstrated effectiveness in a small company location working both strategically and tactically
• Experience working in a manufacturing environment and communicating with employees from all levels of the business
• Ability to hire, assess, develop and manage a high performing team
• Problem solving and systemic thinking skills- critical analytics/ diagnosis/ prioritization skills
• Ability to relate to people at all levels and build trusted relationships
• Strong written and verbal communication skills. Presents views and arguments well to a variety of levels and audiences. Can explain concepts in a way that is simple.
