The Detention Center is located in downtown Greenville, South Carolina and is rated for 1324 inmates. No prior law-enforcement experience is necessary to begin a promising career that offers both job security and opportunities for career advancement. Must be a minimum 18 years of age and possess a High School Diploma/GED. Must be available to work any assigned shift. Must be able to meet the physical health standards of the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. Clear FBI/SLED background. Must be able to provide a copy of the following: Birth Certificate, High School Diploma/GED, valid driver's license, DD214 (if applicable) and listing of addresses for the past 5 years. No criminal record, no state or federal student loans in default, and a steady job history. Education and experience incentives include the following: +5% A.S. degree (in Criminal Justice or a related field), +5% for being Bilingual, and +10% B.S. degree (in Criminal Justice or a related field). Additionally, up to 1.25% for each year of Criminal Justice experience may be awarded at the time of hire. Starting Pay is $44,879 - $70,200 ($20.55 - $36.87 per hour). There is also a public safety step raise program specifically for Deputies, Detention Officers, and EMS workers. This raise system will give you an additional 3% each year when you hit your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd full year of service. It then drops to 2% for years 4, 5, and 6. Then 1.5% for year 7, 8, and 9 and then 1% up to 35 years of service. The step raises are in addition to annual cost of living raises.
