Primary Objective of Position: Using criteria from initial Product Plans, Styling Sheets, Development Schedules, and input from engineering management, a Product Engineer - Vehicle works upfront in vehicle development performing studies, weight management, packaging, defining corridors, and vehicle layout. The Engineer will work closely with the Product team evaluating and testing various devices and products to ensure they meet Winnebago Motorhomes standards. The Product Engineer - Vehicle works under close direction and may design components and systems requiring independent judgment with a learned body of knowledge in an engineering discipline or technology.


Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Conceptualize designs, plans, details, and procedures to accurately convey construction and fabrication requirements.
  • Coordinate and analyze vendor-supplied samples and drawings and incorporate the required information into design projects.
  • Work within company design parameters and all state, federal, and foreign statutes regarding design requirements including NFPA, NEC, RVIA, NHTSA, FMVSS, and CMVSS.
  • Perform a variety of work tasks that are planned to provide experience and familiarization with corporate engineering staff, methods, practices, and programs.
  • Confer with Manufacturing Engineering as required to develop production operations, tool requirements, and feasibility of manufacture, cost estimates of alternative designs, and resolution of manufacturing issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, related field, and/or experience.
  • Four or more years of combined education and experience in the design of mechanical systems would be preferred.
  • Thorough understanding and efficiency with design standards and drafting practices.
  • Must have basic knowledge of mechanical engineering and design, and be familiar with applicable codes, standards, and acceptable industry standards.
  • Must possess engineering skills and be capable of interacting with related engineering disciplines.
  • Proficient in Siemens NX or similar CAD modeling systems.
  • Experience with Siemens Teamcenter would be beneficial.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite.
  • Project experience with complex, multidiscipline programs would be beneficial.


Physical Requirements:


  • Lift objects weighing up to twenty-five pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to climb stair steps. Handicap elevator available.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work on a computer monitor for extended periods of time.
  • Occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl underneath RVs.
  • Use hands and arms to reach, grasp, and manipulate objects.


Working Environment:

  • Work usually takes place in a clean, pleasant, and comfortable office setting.
  • May need to visit the production, Model Shop, and testing facility areas as needed and
  • May be exposed to noise, air pollutants, etc.
