Position Summary
These positions provide chairside dental assistance and office supportive services in the institution dental clinic. These positions involve a wide range of responsibilities and the ability to coordinate multiple activities simultaneously in order to ensure an efficient dental office operation. The incumbent in these positions should be able to use practical experience, adjust to the dentist's preferred methods of operation and keep current on dental assisting, dental materials and office procedures.
Salary Information
This position is in pay schedule and range 06-11 with a starting pay of $18.82/hour. Pay on appointment for current state employees may vary according to the applicable pay transaction provisions of the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code. A twelve-month probationary period is required.
Candidates with no prior permanent employment with the State of Wisconsin in the past 5 years may be eligible to accept a sign-on bonus of $2,000. The sign-on bonus will be paid in two installments: $1000 on the first paycheck and $1000 with the paycheck for the pay period in which the employee attains permanent status (usually 1 year). (UW System employment isn’t disqualifying.)
To receive the bonus , a candidate must sign an agreement indicating they will remain in that position for a year . I f the candidate l eave s their position prior to completing the one year, they may be required to reimburse the initial payment.

The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.
The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.
All state employees must report their COVID vaccination status, whether vaccinated or not and provide supporting documentation if vaccinated. Newly hired employees will be required to submit this information within their first two weeks of employment.

Qualifications
Qualified Applicants will have:
Ability to perform all dental assistant procedures including chairside assistance and expanded functions as allowed by the Wisconsin Dental Practice Act, including assisting for restorative, endodontic, prosthetic and oral surgical procedures
Knowledge of infection control practices, sterilization techniques and aseptic procedures.
Knowledge of dental laboratory & radiology procedures, including safety precautions.
Knowledge of dental nomenclature and names of dental instruments and equipment.
Knowledge of dental materials, their use and storage procedures.
Knowledge of ethical standards of dental practice.
Experience in administrative procedures and practices such as filing, basic computer use, report preparation, inventory control, and in communication and correspondence skills.
Certification in CPR/Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) and knowledge of First Aid procedures.
