Teaching, Learning and Technology
- Support pedagogy that promotes student engagement and learning
- Encourage the use of technology in the curriculum
- Support professional development among Division faculty
- Support faculty in meeting the academic needs of students
- Respond to student questions and concerns, and encourage faculty to reach out to students
- Ensure Division website is accurate and up-to-date
Curriculum Development and Assessment
- Promote and support faculty in the design and development of new courses/programs, deletion of courses/programs, and course/program revision
- Ensure that all programs provide clear academic pathways
- Oversee all assessment activities and ensure that all programs implement their Program Assessment Plan
- Develop the master schedule in collaboration with VP for Academics and Workforce, Division Deans, and the office of Enrollment Management and Student Success
- Monitor enrollment of all courses within the Division
- Approve the addition/deletion of courses during registration periods
- Provide the Vice President with regular reports including: Annual Reports, Assessment Plans, Academic Discipline Plans, Professional Development Plans, Advisory Committees, and Specialized Accreditation Reports
Division Administration
- Supervise and evaluate all faculty (full-time, adjunct, dual enrollment) in the Division
- Supervise all staff in the Division
- Serve as an advocate for issues initiatives, goals, and needs of the Division
- Successfully Implement College policies and regulations within the Division
- Approve faculty schedules
- Lead and participate in the recruitment and hiring of faculty and facilitate the search process
- Supervise the advisory committee process for all career programs within the Division
- Conduct Division meetings
- Develop budget requests, allocate and manage resources (budgetary, personnel and facilities) within the Division
- Coordinate all Division activities with other Deans
- Facilitate clear communication between the Division and the College community
- Work with the Office of Enrollment Management & Student Success to address student concerns related to the Division
- Serve on Committees as assigned

SVCC is located in a rural setting of rolling hills, pine and hardwood forests, and farmland. The area is famous for its two lakes, Gaston and Kerr, and a multitude of state and national parks which offer recreational opportunities such as fishing, boating, skiing, jet-skiing, hiking, horseback riding, picnics, and relaxation. The area also offers sports arenas for baseball, softball, soccer and beautiful golf courses. There are cultural activities including various theaters and arts councils offering concerts, plays, and live entertainment, and there are many local festivals held throughout the year.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in an academic discipline or in Higher Education Administration
- Full-time or significant adjunct higher education teaching
- Experience in planning, coordination and on-going improvement of curriculum and instruction
- Experience in outcomes assessment
- Understanding of and a commitment to the mission of a comprehensive community college
- Commitment to student success
- Participatory leadership style; demonstrated creativity and flexibility in problem solving
- Demonstrated commitment to academic excellence
- Sensitivity to the educational and personal goals of a diverse student population
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Strong interpersonal, administrative, and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in division (Humanities, Social Sciences or Business)
- Earned Doctorate
- Two to four years of progressive administrative/leadership experience in higher education
