Who we are

Parents need to work to be able to provide for their families. But while they are at work, they worry about their child’s development and happiness. On top of it all, quality daycares cost so much that almost all of their work income goes back to childcare.

It is our mission to partner with 60 families by offering excellent and affordable early childcare and education that doesn’t break the bank, because parents need to work but the early years are the foundation to raising amazing adults.

What you’ll be doing

Floaters fill a unique roll at Academy Kids DayCare. Floaters lend support in all classrooms, help to provide coverage during breaks, serve as a substitute if a teacher has to be out, and assist with transitions (such as drop off and pick up).

Like all AKD staff members, Floaters should help to create an environment where children have the opportunity to develop social-emotional, language, intellectual, and physical skills. Staff should promote a Christian environment where children will learn positive morals and values for daily life.

You will be responsible for…

• Being familiar with all of the teachers and all of the children.

• Bringing snacks to classrooms at the appointed times.
• Providing coverage in classrooms so that Lead Teachers can take their break.
• Providing support during high-traffic times at drop off and pick-up.
• If no one is calling for help, rotate from room to room asking if anyone needs assistance. Tasks you may need to help with include: cleaning tables, reading stories to the children, changing diapers, warming lunches, cleaning paint off toddlers, etc.
• If no one needs help, do any of the following: Pick a room that will be in transition soon and will probably need help for that transition. Pick a room with children that you haven’t had much time with so that you can begin to develop a relationship with them. Look for something that needs to be done such as: cleaning the restroom, cleaning the front of the daycare & common areas, tidying up storage spaces, or gathering materials for an activity that a teacher has planned.
• Serving as a substitute if a teacher cannot be at work.
• Checking in with the Assistant Director and Director periodically throughout the day.

• Having the ability to complete the following physical requirements: Be able to lift up to 40 pounds. Bend, stoop, and kneel to the children’s level. Sit on the floor and/or child sized chairs. Stand for extended periods of time. Withstand periods of time in the sun and heat outside.

Terms: Permanent Position; Full Time

Wages: $11/hour

Report to: Assistant Director & Director

What skills & experience you need

• Be at least 16 years of age.
• Pass Georgia’s state criminal background check to comply with Georgia DECAL guidelines.
• Have proof of US citizenship or right to work.
• Be able to work independently.
• Possess excellent communication skills, written and oral, to effectively communicate with many different types of people.
• Be flexible, and patient.
• Demonstrate role modeling ability, and organizational skills.
• Complete CPR & First Aid certification and Health & Safety Orientation within 90 days of beginning employment.
• Meet continuing education goals each year.

We are following all DECAL guidelines, including increased cleaning. We are also working towards installing UV air filtration units in all classrooms.
