As a Customer Support Specialist for ND DHHS Child Support, you are the first point of contact for people with questions about the child support system. Your calm and helpful responses will help reduce callers' frustration and stress as they navigate a complex process.

In a typical week , you will field hundreds of questions, via phone and email, regarding child support from parents, child support staff, financial institutions, and other agencies. You will educate those callers on available self-service tools. You will research cases - correcting records and adding data along the way. When not fielding questions, you will decipher support judgements, compile and reconcile payment data for assigned cases.

To thrive in this position , you must be a helper at heart, patient and able to read between the lines when talking with others. You should enjoy working with numbers and can explain complex financial concepts to others in a way that they can understand. Most importantly, you should be comfortable working on the phone and changing gears frequently - all in the name of great customer service.

ND DHHS Child Support administers the statewide program as required by law. Services include location of parents and potential parents, establishment of paternity, establishment and enforcement of court ordered child support and medical support obligation, receipting and distributing support payments, and guiding customers through the process.

To be considered for this position , you must have an associate degree with emphasis in office support, business or customer service and three (3) years of work experience in a financial industry which included providing customer service; OR a high school diploma (or GED) and five (5) years of work experience in a financial industry which included providing customer service. Experience working in a call center environment is preferred. Additional work experience may be substituted for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
