Custodian Job at Espanola Public Schools
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be physically capable and willing to perform required tasks.
- Must possess acceptable attitude(s) towards staff, students, and parents
- Must demonstrate dedication to job performance and accept direction and guidance from supervisory personnel.
- Must be consistent in monitoring work schedule and in performance of tasks.
- Must have a high school diploma or GED.

JOB GOAL: To provide students and staff with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient
Place in which to learn, play, and work.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Shall keep buildings and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean at all times.
- Shall regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperature appropriate to the season and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity.
- Shall clear sidewalks, driveways, parking areas, and plow areas of snow and ice as needed.
- Shall check daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
- Shall raise the United States and New Mexico Flags at or before 8:00 a.m., on each school day, and lower them in the evening.
- Shall sweep classrooms and dust furniture daily.
- Shall clean corridors after/during the school day when conditions require it and as directed.
- Shall wash all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice each year or when asked to do so.
- Shall keep the grounds free from rubbish.
- Shall perform such yard keeping chores as grass cutting, tree trimming, and the like, as necessary, to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition.
- Shall keep all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation
- Shall clean all chalkboards at least once a week.
- Shall make minor building repairs, as assigned by principal or supervisor.
- Shall immediately report any damage to school property to the principal or supervisor.
- Shall follow work schedule approved by principal or supervisor.
- Shall assume responsibility for the opening and closing of the buildings each day as assigned by supervisor and for determining, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured, and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off.
- Shall keep an inventory of supplies, equipment, and fuel on hand, and requisition such needed replacements from the principal far enough in advance so that they may be delivered in such time as will not hinder the custodian in his/her duties.

Shall conduct an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair of floors, including sanding and sealing of hardwood floors (gym floors where applicable).- Shall move furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the principal or supervisor.
- Shall comply with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste.
- Shall conduct periodic safety inspections of assigned school facilities and equipment.
- Shall perform any other duties deemed necessary by the school principal or supervisor.
