Montgomery County OIC is looking for a creative P/T Culinary Arts Instructor to work with our youth program for 8 week program. The instructor will help them learn new skills and complete certification in order to become a prep cook or other culinary desires.
Job Overview:
Must have experience teaching youth and/or adult education courses in the field of foodservice
- Must have experience as a professional cook, manager, or baker
- Two (2) years of experience teaching youth and/or adult education courses in the field of foodservice
- Two (2) years of experience as a professional cook, manager, or baker
- Teaches a wide variety of demonstration and hands-on classes (both in-person and virtual) teen and young adult students
- Supervises the production of food items for events in collaboration with back-of-the-house personnel apportions meats, vegetables and desserts, and utilizes food surpluses to control food costs
- Manages, train, and provides feedback and ensures health and quality standards are consistently met
- Oversees kitchen stations and the cleanliness
- Teach student how to prepare menu changes, specials, shortages, allergies and dietary restrictions
- Plans events and creates menus together with the Education team
- Purchases or submits requisitions for food items, kitchen supplies and equipment
- Performs other duties as required or assigned
Qualifications
- 4+ years of cooking experience, with 1+ year of management experience
- Working knowledge of kitchen equipment, food production procedures, and safety and sanitation regulations
- Excellent communication skills and enjoyment of speaking in front of large groups
- In-depth knowledge of cuisine and culture
- Second language skills highly preferred
Job Requirements
- Availability to work onsite with a flexible schedule often including evenings, weekends and holidays
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to exert well-paced mobility for up to 8 hours, including standing, walking, bending and squatting
- Ability to use knives, hand tools and standard kitchen equipment
- Food Handler’s License
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $1,000.00 per month
