The Ohio Court of Claims is a statutorily created court with statewide jurisdiction and hears claims against the state of Ohio for money damages, appeals from Attorney General decisions regarding claims filed under the Victims of Crime Compensation Program, and complaints from citizens against government agencies regarding denial of access to public records. The Court employs approximately 30 staff members and part-time judges. The Ohio Court of Claims is located along with the Ohio Supreme Court in the Thomas J. Moyer Ohio Judicial Center, a restored 15 story historical building located along the Scioto River in downtown Columbus.
What You'll Do:
Under supervision of the Director of Case Management, perform a range of routine technical and administrative duties in support of courtroom and general business operations. Operate audio/visual recording equipment and videoconferencing equipment during trials, hearings, and other court proceedings. Receive, log, and maintain custody of exhibits. Assist with court inventory and supply management.
This position will be required to be in the office during the training period and may be eligible for a hybrid teleworking schedule.
Job duties for this position include but are not limited to:
- Run, monitor, and maintain courtroom a/v recording systems and videoconferencing equipment to record trials, hearings, and any other court proceedings.
- Open court, escort parties and/or witnesses to and from the courtroom as needed; report need for building security, law enforcement and/or state highway patrol; maintain order during court proceedings.
- Label, maintain custody and transfer all exhibits introduced at trial or any other court proceedings; data entry of exhibits into case management system.
- Perform basic preventative maintenance checks on a/v equipment.
- Interact with external vendors troubleshooting, installing, and/or updating a/v recording systems and videoconferencing equipment, peripherals, and associated software.
- Provide support, training and guidance to users, attorneys and visitors on available systems and equipment.
- Copy and maintain recordings on the network and in accordance with the court's retention policy; copy recorded proceedings onto portable media for judges, attorneys, and the public.
- Maintain organization and inventory of exhibit room; assist legal and clerical staff with accessing exhibits.
- Collaborate with Department of Rehabilitation & Correction for both in-person and virtual trial preparation.
- Assist with setting up new staff and judges with IT equipment, peripherals, and software; perform routine maintenance and updates on desktops and laptops; assist with new hardware and software deployment as needed.
- Assist with general office supply & equipment inventory and disposal of assets; perform physical inventory counts; receive, inspect, and deliver all supplies & equipment throughout court.
- Coordinate routine maintenance on court vehicle.
- Serve on special projects or workgroups.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Case Management, Clerk of the Court, or other judicial officer.
Physical Requirements:
- Majority of work is performed in an office environment or courtroom where physical demands require sitting and standing for extended periods of time.
- May include exposure to potentially stressful situations and/or personal danger.
- Sufficient ability and strength to lift, carry or otherwise move objects up to 50 pounds for varying distances unassisted and the ability to climb stairs daily.

Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED supplemented with post-high school vocational course work or technical training/certifications and
- 1 year audio/visual recording technologies experience or 1 year working with video conferencing systems.
- Or Associate degree in Information Technology, Electronics, Communications, Legal Studies, Criminal Justice, or related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A/V recording system experience or information technology experience.
- Courtroom experience.
