Description:Salary: $500 per week
Dates: June 8 to August 8, 2023
The Counselor-In-Training (CIT) Director supervises campers’ participation in structured and unstructured activities while demonstrating sensitivity to the needs of campers served. Interacts appropriately with campers in a variety of situations using appropriate positive behavior management techniques.
Major Accountabilities:
- Ability to supervise campers’ participation in structured and unstructured activities
- Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of campers served
- Interact appropriately with campers in a variety of situations, appropriately modeling behavior in a positive manner
- Ability to accompany campers to main program areas, lead small and large group activities
- Direct supervision and safety of the unit of Counselors in Training (CIT)
- Plan and implement CIT lesson planning
- Evaluate and share learning progress of CITs weekly
- Provide leadership and guidance to campers and staff, share program resources with Unit Leaders
- Participation in all aspects of camp programming
- Act as a camp hostess, meeting each girl and her parents at the opening and closing of each session
- Set standards/examples of courtesy, good taste, respect, and proper manners throughout camp and in the dining hall
- Organize camp living in units, including housekeeping, activities and program for both campers and staff
- Keep unit records and make reports as required, carry out written unit schedule
- Coordinate unit plans with those of other units and all camp activities including campfires, ceremonies, special events, and meals unless specifically excused by the Camp Director
- Teach camping skills and appreciation/respect for the outdoors
- Identify and respond appropriately to hazards and emergencies
- Instruct campers in emergency procedures
- Adhere to and uphold the safety and program standards of Girl Scout of the United States of America, Girl Scouts of North East Ohio, and the American Camp Association for both campers and staff
- As a member of Girl Scouts of the United States of America, ensure that diversity and pluralism is embraced and incorporated into the work
- Other duties as assigned by the Camp Director
- Responsible for the welfare, safety, and cleanliness of each individual and camper in unit. Follows and enforces all recommended health guidelines, including handwashing and cleaning/sanitizing as needed.
Requirements:o Minimum age 21
o College diploma or equivalent
o Successful record of experience in supervisory/organizational capacity (preferably in organized camp)
o Ability/experience to teach and supervise adults and youth
o Interest, knowledge, and skills in a variety of camp program fields
o Youth-oriented program background a plus
o Demonstrated ability to successfully handle conflict resolution at all levels with a variety of people, including external customers
o Ability to pay close attention to detail and maintain confidentiality
o Computer literacy and technical knowledge of computer software programs such as Word, Publisher, Excel, and the Internet
o Ability to communicate the written and spoken word with tact, diplomacy, and/or authority when necessary
o Well disciplined, able to meet deadlines
o Self-starter
o Able to work under pressure of many priorities and deadlines
o Ability to work well as a part of a team
o Knowledge of the Girl Scout program preferred
o Ability to meet schedule requirements, including flexible work week, early hours, nights, and weekends
o Will require travel throughout the Girl Scouts of North East Ohio jurisdiction
