General Statement of Duties:
The Coordinator for Leadership and Diversity & Inclusion is responsible for assisting in the administration of a comprehensive leadership development program, campus wide diversity and inclusion programming, and supporting a meaningful student engagement experience
CORE DUTIES:
Leadership Development
- Assist with execution of the First Year Leadership Experience (FLEx) program including the recruitment of mentors, program implementation, and assessment
- Assist with the execution of Leadership Day
- Assist with the execution of the Leadership CAPstone experience
Student Engagement
- Assist in engaging students in the University community
- Assist in creating and implementing new University traditions
- Assist in advising multi-cultural student organizations in the areas of budgeting, contracts, marketing, implementation, and evaluation of programs
Orientation
- Assist with training of Orientation staff
- Coordinate DEIAB programs for Orientation.
- Assists in the implementation of the University’s orientation programs
Diversity and Inclusion
· Support the Director in the development and implementation of Center programming and diversity training
· Serve on, or chair, planning committees for affinity months (Hispanic Heritage Month, Native American Heritage Month, Black History Month, and Women’s History Month)
· Assist the Director in establishing all long-term goals for the Center
· Assist in the selection, training, and supervision of the Diversity Peer Educators
· Assist with the supervision of student workers and assign tasks as needed
· Advise students on academic and personal issues and make referrals where appropriate to tutoring, counseling and other support services to support retention efforts
· Represent the Myatt Center on committees, councils and task forces that promote diversity, as required by the Director
· Expect to occasionally work nights and weekends, as required by the Director
Other
- Provide rotation coverage for evening and weekend events and activities to ensure compliance with policies and to assist in problem resolution.
- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director for Student Engagement, Leadership and Orientation, Associate Director for Recognized Student Organizations (RSO) and Leadership Initiatives, and Director of the Myatt Center.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Master’s degree in higher education, student development or similar field
- Knowledge of contemporary higher education principles, practices, and procedures
- 2+ year’s professional experience student programming, leadership programs, DEIA-B, student affairs, student activities or similar field.
- Knowledge and/or experience with planning, implementing, and assessing student programs required.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
- Understanding of Microsoft 365 products required
- Understanding of web-based higher education software such as Anthology/Campus Labs Engage and Baseline, Slate, and Banner preferred
- Understanding of learning management software such as Canvas preferred
- Understanding of social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter preferred
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form required
- Ability to work with academic departments and other student support service areas required
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population required
- Ability to multitask and manage different projects required
- Ability to work occasional nights and weekends required
- Ability to work in a “team orientated” office
· Knowledge of issues facing historically underrepresented populations
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Must be COVID vaccinated
