Aviara Healthcare is looking for an experienced Cook to join our team!

Purpose: To ensure our patrons receive quality nutritious meals and services on a daily basis.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Prepare all food according to the menu in a safe, sanitary manner under the direction of the dining services manager.
• Ensure proper preparation, portioning, and serving of feeds according to standardized recipes.
• Prepare quality food products according to standardized recipes and menus.
• Adhere to all safety and sanitation standards.
• Prepare food in a timely manner at specified meal times.
• Follow department procedures and storage of all dishes, utensils and cooking equipment.
• Ensure all food in refrigerator, freezer, and dry storage are labeled and dated.
• Oversee proper food handling and utilization of all foods to prevent contamination, increase quality and reduce cost.
• Suggest menu or recipe changes to utilize leftovers and other supplies.
• Clean all food service equipment, kitchen and food storage areas.

Requirements and Qualifications:

• Must hold a CA food handler certification
• Must be SafeServ certified
• Must have at least 1 full year of experience cooking in a commercial facility.
• Must possess, as a minimum, a high school diploma.
• Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
• Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
• Must be knowledgeable of food services practices and procedures as well as the laws, regulations and guidelines governing food services functions in nursing care facilities.
• Must possess leadership ability and willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel.
• Must have the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, etc., of the Food Services Department.
• Maintain professional working relationships with all associates, vendors, etc.
• Maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
• Understand and follow company policies including harassment and compliance procedures
• Displays integrity and professionalism by adhering to Code of Conduct and completes mandatory Code of Conduct and other appropriate compliance training

Physical Capacities: (With or Without the Aid of Mechanical Devices)

• Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
• Possible bending, squatting, twisting and reaching
• Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met
• Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility
• Must be able to stand for and walk for extended periods of time
• Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position

Environmental Conditions: Inside work, normal kitchen temperatures, some noise, occasional fumes/odors, working with a variety of tools/machines
