Controller Job at Southern Spear Ironworks
General Description of Position:
The Controller will manage the company's accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems to maintain financial controls and guidelines for the company and its affiliates. The Controller will perform data analysis, create financial reports, and provide comprehensive financial updates to senior management by evaluating, analyzing, and reporting appropriate data points. The Controller will oversee the company's accounting and audit functions.
Duties:
- Oversee the monthly closing process and submittal of information to management
- Ensure balance sheet reconciliations are performed for all the general ledger accounts and that proper reviews of these reconciliations are performed in a timely manner
- Provide supplemental reporting for quarterly and annual reviews as requested
- Work directly with management to prepare monthly forecasts and annual budget
- Track and report on financial results against budget and forecast and help management and corporate offices to understand variations vs expectations
- Determine information needed by management that will help to reduce variances, and improve profitability
- Provide analysis that will aid in improving working capital management
- Provide schedules and support documentation to assist with company audits
- Work with personnel on physical inventory procedures and processes to ensure we obtain proper physical inventory results
- Understand capital spending needs and include capital plans in forecasting and budgeting processes.
Education & Work Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance required: CPA/CMA is preferred
- A minimum of 7 years of accounting experience is required
- Experience working in a manufacturing operation is preferred
- Strong understanding of economic and banking processes
- Working knowledge of finance law and regulatory standards (GAAP)
- Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections
- Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects
- Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings
- Work requires the willingness to work a flexible schedule
- Day shift
- Monday to Friday
