Construction Materials Buyer

Independence Excavating is looking to add a Construction Materials Buyer to our Independence OH headquarters. In this role, the Construction Materials Buyer will be working close with our vendors and our project management teams planning, scheduling, and forecasting procurement activities while playing a vital role ensuring the profitability of business contracts, by purchasing the most cost-effective and appropriate materials for each job.

A typical day looks like:

• Developing and maintaining consistent purchasing policies, procedures, and practices
• Maintaining positive vendor relationships while negotiating the best value for the Company
• Working collaboratively with the Project Management team to coordinate purchasing functions related to vendor selection, contract details, payment terms and delivery conditions
• Assisting the Project Management Team in the creation and evaluation of RFQs and contracts
• Reviewing invoices for accuracy and direct posting to correct job codes
• Researching supply chain vendors and materials for best procurement strategies based on price, quality and timeliness of availability and delivery
• Creating spreadsheets with vendor and product/service comparisons of prospective suppliers to assist management decisions
• Developing plans for the effective organization and temporary storage of project materials and general inventories at various company and job site locations
• Monitoring and supporting returns, damage replacements, and warranty claims
• Preparing and maintaining the vendor list and have it approved it with senior Project Managers
• Other duties as assigned

Do you have what it takes?

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required
• 3+ years of experience with purchasing or material control, must have experience with establishing and/or implementing policies and procedures to control business processes
• Purchase of Construction Materials (Stone, Pipe, Concrete, etc.) strongly preferred
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and Outlook) and familiarity with enterprise systems required
