The Compliance Specialist contributes to the success of the Office of Compliance and Integrity (OCI) by executing assigned compliance projects and annual work plan items with high quality and in a timely manner. The Compliance Specialist will develop education and training materials, develop, maintain and revise internal and external-facing policies and procedures and standard work documents, and perform risk assessments and compliance audits. Responsibilities include but, are not limited to the following:

  • Supports the development and execution of the annual OCI work plan by completing assigned work, projects, audits and reports in a timely manner with exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Develops educational materials for a wide variety of audiences with a focus on conveying complex information in a manner that is easy to understand.
  • Investigates compliance reports as assigned and collaborates with other departments and stakeholders as necessary to resolve reports in a timely manner. Makes recommendations for corrective actions and process improvements when necessary.
  • Conducts risk assessments on a continuous basis to evaluate and mitigate compliance risk. Links risk assessment activity to the development and prioritization of annual OCI Work Plan. Keeps all assigned OCI Work Plan activity up to date and identifies and escalates any barriers that may prevent any work from being accomplished as planned.
  • Assists with the development and revision of HHC and Department Policies and Procedures and Standard Work. Assists with maintaining the department huddle board including ensuring timeliness of reports and communications.
  • Maintains current knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and other regulations and accreditation standards, and monitor compliance and audit standards and changes in regulations to ensure organizational adaptation and compliance. Participate in outside healthcare compliance organizations to stay abreast of developments and best practices within the industry.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree Required

Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years related work experience required - preferably in a hospital/healthcare system setting.

Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements :

  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical and written/verbal communication skills required.
  • Knowledge of effective adult learning strategies, comfortable providing live educational material in large and small group settings.
  • Ability to utilize information technology and systems to develop and enhance educational content
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations, internal controls and health care operations.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint required. Knowledge of additional presentation software, business systems and patient systems, e.g., EPIC, PeopleSoft, etc. desirable.
  • Strong attention to detail and advanced organizational skills
  • Proven ability to handle multiple tasks at once
  • Proven analytical problem solver
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to successfully manage multiple priorities
