Position Details:

Stewards Individual Placements provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. The Community Volunteer Ambassador (CVA) Program combines the strength of a national leader in conservation service with the National Park Service to train a diverse group of emerging leaders to assist park units in building lasting connections to communities.

The selected candidate will work in a robust volunteer program that allows hands-on experience in coordination of projects, working with multiple park divisions, and career development opportunities. We have a history of providing our Community Volunteer Ambassadors valuable, engaging, and supportive experiences in Zion and our greater community.


Site Information:

Zion National Park isn't a secret, but it is a unique treasure of cultural, ecological, and geological significance. The towering sandstone cliffs and deep canyons provide an unmatched setting for connecting to the resource and self. The volunteer program at Zion supports the preservation of the park through service and outreach experiences designed to enrich the volunteer's personal connection to the park and the wider world.


Position Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize, and implement single and multi-day volunteer events
  • Recruit diverse volunteers and work to remove obstacles for those wanting to
  • volunteer in Zion
  • Work with all park divisions to complete conservation, protection, or
  • education projects that support our mission
  • Oversee and supervise the graffiti education and prevention team in Zion
  • Plan and coordinate Alternative Breaks for college and university students
  • Participate in community outreach events
  • Promote Leave No Trace Ethics to park visitors

CVA Minimum Requirements:

  • Six months of experience working with the public
  • Interested in learning about the National Park Service and career opportunities
  • Desire to learn and apply skills in a dynamic, public setting
  • Ability to organize, plan, and make things happen
  • Can commit to a 50-week job placement
  • Personable, kind, and hardworking
  • Works well with people of all ages and backgrounds
  • Enjoys working outdoors
  • Participate in the CVA National Early Service Training in early November 2023
  • Be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Be 18-30 years old at time of service (veterans up to 35 years old)
  • Pass fingerprint-based FBI, state criminal, and a national sex offender checks.
  • Be able to provide proof of a driver’s license and complete a MVR check
  • Must be over 21 years old or have had license for at least 3 years to be insured in this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Basic public speaking skills
  • Leadership experience
  • Communication skills via email, phone, and in person
  • Organizational skills to make an idea a successful project
  • Educational or interpretive outreach skills

Benefits:

  • CVA will receive a weekly stipend of $500/week living allowance, additional $65/week housing allowance, if housing is not provided.
