TWU Service Coordinator Position
Alexandria City, Virginia
Open immediately until filled
Are you passionate about helping your community? Are you looking for a way to get involved during this health and economic crisis? Then this may be the position for you!
Tenants and Workers United (TWU) has a 35+ year history of organizing and building power among low-income communities of color -- primarily immigrants -- to win changes that advance social justice and improve our quality of life in Northern Virginia. As a result of COVID-19 and the economic crisis, TWU has expanded our programming to provide service navigation to help people connect with the resources they need. We are simultaneously organizing to change oppressive systems while helping families meet their most basic needs.
TWU is seeking a Service Coordinator to support our service navigation and community-based work in Alexandria City. The Service Coordinator will conduct community outreach, identify individual and community needs, connect people to existing resources, provide follow-up and ongoing support as needed, conduct civic education, increase civic engagement among historically marginalized communities, and guide community-led work to advance equity in local policies and programs.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct door-to-door community outreach to identify individual and community needs
- Field calls, texts, and messages from community members who have questions about health, housing, and other resources
- Connect community members to existing resources in the City of Alexandria, including food, rent assistance, health care services, mental health care service, legal support, and more
- As needed, assist people with the completion and submission of applications to support programs
- Provide follow-up calls and short-term service navigation to those who need guidance through multi-step processes in order to access resources
- Register eligible individuals for the COVID vaccine
- Conduct civic education sessions with individuals, small groups, and larger groups
- Coordinate and lead civic engagement activities to increase self-advocacy among members of historically marginalized communities
- Work closely with TWU staff members to support the organization’s broader initiatives and efforts
- Coordinate outreach activities and event logistics in collaboration with TWU staff members
- Design and prepare linguistically and culturally appropriate promotional and informational materials
- Remain knowledgeable about available community services and programs, including how and where to apply for various resources
- Conduct all interactions in a culturally and linguistically appropriate manner
- Maintain a clear and complete database of contacts and service navigation clients
Requirements:
- Bilingual in Spanish and English
- Highly organized
- Timely and efficient in responding to clients and effective in addressing people’s needs
- Experience working with the most impacted low-income communities of color and immigrants
- An understanding of the various programs, services, and resources that exist in Alexandria City
- A flexible schedule (must be available evenings and some weekends)
