Community Relations Specialist – Bergen County Animal Shelter and Adoption Center
Bergen County Animal Shelter and Adoption Center is looking for a full time Community Relations Specialist to be part of our shelter team. We are an open admission, municipal shelter adhering to a no-kill philosophy under the guidelines of the Asilomar Accords.
Job Responsibilities:
- Under direction, conducts community events to promote adoption of shelter pets
and educate the public in responsible pet ownership promoting community harmony.
- Set up and take adoption vehicle to varies events such as town family days, sponsored adoption events, corporate events, and government sponsored events.
- Speak to private, civil, government, fraternal and religious organizations to promote peaceful neighborhoods and school integration as it relates to community harmony.
Knowledge and Abilities:
- Knowledge of planning and implementation of a program for the purpose of promoting cooperation, understanding, and harmony between government agencies, community groups and the public on behalf of BCAS and the County of Bergen.
- Knowledge of the collection, preparation, editing and distribution of information for the purpose of promoting the services and activities of BCAS.
- Knowledge of preparing reports and official correspondence.
- Knowledge of maintenance of essential records and files.
- Ability to implement a community relations program to promote cooperation, understanding and harmony between the government, the community and BCAS.
- Ability to speak before large and varied group of people and lead discussions.
- Ability to deal courteously and harmoniously with associates, subordinates, and individuals.
Schedule:
- 40 hours per week. Must be available at least one weekend day and work flexible hours as needed.
Education Requirements:
- High School diploma
Other Requirements:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Computer literacy (MS Excel and Word).
- Two years’ experience in a community relations or community organization work and/or
experience in field work in any social program.
- Ability to conduct educational programs to both adult and children’s groups/organizations.
- Conduct off-site adoption events that that develop and maintain a harmonious liaison between the community and government organizations.
- The ability to comfortably engage in public speaking by speaking to private, civic, government, fraternal and religious organizations to promote community harmony and responsible pet ownership.
- Must keep abreast of the latest sociological materials and journals as applicable.
- Possess a valid N.J. Driver’s License.
- Must be able to read, write, understand, and communicate in English.
