Community Outreach Coordinator

Under the general direction of the Dean of Student Services, the Director of Outreach is responsible to provide leadership to the three student support programs/areas:
Outreach Coordinator (75%):
Under the supervision of the area administrator performs tasks related to the supervision and coordination of day-to-day operations of Outreach Services, including the scheduling and assigning internal and external outreach requests, and serving as a liaison between the College and the community to provide up-to-date information pertaining to the College’s programs and services. Sets and monitors goals and develops tasks; coordinates the work of classified staff and student workers. Facilitates outreach and early academic preparation workshops; hosts community and K-12 activities; and oversees the implementation of assigned area programs and projects. Utilize
Dreamers Coordinator (15%):
Provide various support workshops that include but are not limited to DACA and DREAM Act application, financial aid, etc. Develops informational materials and Implements grant and categorical fund project objectives according to the timelines established in the awards and oversees and monitors grant and categorical fund project deliverables. Sets and monitors goals and develops tasks; coordinates the work of classified staff and student workers. Plans, organizes, and conducts faculty and student orientations. Plans, organizes, and conducts professional development workshops for faculty across the disciplines. Provides information to the campus community about DACA and Dreamer services. Tracks service usage and prepares statistical reports.
Foster Youth Coordinator (10%):
The Coordinator will case manage the Taft foster youth students and ensure college on-boarding (application, financial aid/Chaffey, registration, etc.); financial resources & assistance (textbook awards, fee payment, transportation assistance, emergency grants, etc.). Case management includes navigating college, financial literacy/budgeting, housing, employment, etc. Sets and monitors goals and develops tasks; coordinates the work of classified staff and student workers. The Director will also serve as the academic advisor to Taft Foster Youth and assist with major exploration, student education plan, transfer, etc.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
  • Utilizes computer terminal and performs general clerical duties.
  • Operate a variety of office equipment including a copier, scanner, fax machine, computer and assigned software.
  • Coordinates the work schedules of staff and student workers within the student services office to ensure effective day-to-day operations and appropriate office coverage.
  • Develops student and professional staff training/workshops for outreach, foster youth, and undocumented students and other relevant campus staff.
  • Develops and implements outreach efforts to increase public and college awareness of the services offered by the College and its programs, grants, and services. This responsibility includes marketing, student recruitment, workshops, and presentations.
  • Provides the ongoing logistical coordination of the components of assigned programs and projects, including the operations of the Outreach, Undocumented Students and Foster Youth.
  • Provides responses to inquiries from students, parents, high schools, and community organizations regarding College admissions, programs, and projects.
  • Coordinates the participation of the Outreach department at K-12 college/career fairs and parent nights as well as special college-wide events, including but not limited to, campus tours, the College Welcome Day and Commencement ceremony.
  • Performs and coordinates efforts to provide students with initial enrollment and support services needs including information about financial aid, admissions, and other student services and academic support programs.
  • Monitors the smart phone application, outreach website, and other social media efforts as assigned.
  • Serves as a liaison between the College and K-12 and community.
  • Develops and maintains a system of managing student contact database for high school and college program recruitment.
  • Monitors the department’s budget and other resources as directed, ensure department compliance with college and district financial policies and procedures. Ensures requisitions, timesheets, mileage and travel requests are processed according to college and district policies.
  • Maintains an understanding of current ideas, research and practices pertaining to the area of responsibility for this position, through continued study and participation in professional organizations
  • Serve as Coordinator and advisor for undocumented student program
  • Serve as the coordinator and advisor for Foster Youth program
  • Performs other related responsibilities as may be assigned.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education and Experience
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, and
  • 2 years of progressively responsible work experience in a student services, outreach or related function, and
  • Must have at least six months of formal or informal supervisory experience, and
  • Demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students; and of staff and students with physical and learning disabilities.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Experience working with historically marginalized populations.
  • Experience in a higher education or a public service environment.
  • Bilingual: Spanish/English
  • Experience in outreach and programming for historically marginalized students.
Special Licenses/Certifications
Valid California driver’s license and an acceptable driving record and qualify for insurability by the District’s insurance carrier.
Knowledge of
  • General public relations methods.
  • Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.
  • Computer software programs to produce promotional material.
  • Clerical and office practices, procedures, and equipment.
Environment
This is a full-time, 12 months per year positions. May require holiday or weekend work to meet deadlines. Work is generally performed indoors but will involve a substantial amount of traveling to high schools, workshops, trainings, or meetings. Some evening, Saturday, and Sunday work may be required.
Compensation and Benefits
This position is grade 8 on the Administrator Salary Schedule, with an annual salary of $64,601-$83,320 per year.
