Community Health Worker - Bilingual (English/Chinese) - Temporary Job at Henry Street Settlement
Job Overview:
- Work Schedule: 15 hours per week; Monday through Friday
- Type: Temporary 5 month contract from December 2022 – April 2023
- Pay: $22 per hour; non-exempt
Program Overview:
The Dale Jones Burch Neighborhood Center (DJBNC) is a free walk-in program that provides Single Stop Case Management and crisis counseling services, benefit/entitlements screenings and referrals, health insurance enrollment services and parenting classes/workshops. Services are offered in English, Spanish and Chinese.
Job Summary:
As a Bilingual Chinese-speaking Community Health Worker, you will collaborate with Henry Street’s point person for COVID-19 activities and support our research project collaboration(s) with NYU including RADX and NYCEAL, initiatives which focus on increasing uptake of COVID-19 home tests for certain age groups in Lower East Side NYCHA developments. You will be assisting and participating in the contribution of these tests and follow-up on utilization for young people ages 18-29 and social isolated and/or homebound adults (ages 60+). This is a 5-month contract starting December of 2022.
Qualifications:
- Bilingual in English/Chinese required
- CHW Certification and/or experience
- Experience providing outreach and engagement in housing developments
- Comfortable working as part of an interdisciplinary team
- Strong interpersonal skills demonstrative of empathy and support
- Ability to work collaboratively with Neighborhood Center Program Director, Project Supervisor and CHW, HR, case managers, social workers, CHWs and other Neighborhood Center/Henry Street program staff and NYU staff
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, etc).
Responsibilities:
- Recruit and screen people for the study
- Refer interested people to NYU study team members
- Answer questions about why participation in research is important, and encourage people that their participation in research is valuable
- Direct people to COVID-19 information and resource
Essential Physical Job Functions:
- Able to conduct field-based outreach via walking
- Able to carry a portable tablet plus work cell phone
- Able to navigate directions when commuting from office to local NYCHA developments
