Description / Position Overview

CMED Paramedic
The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) is hiring a paramedic to staff community medicine units. In this position, you will provide medical and administrative assistance to support CSFD's TIERED response model. You will also provide primary care and/or advanced life support. Necessary job duties include medical evaluation, treatment, and stabilization of the physically and mentally ill, or injured. Come be a part of the ever-changing face of community healthcare. Essential Job Functions-
the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform:
  • Provide response and care to individuals within the fire department 911 response system designated with a TIERED response model
  • Support existing health systems by providing integrated health services in partnership with other healthcare professionals
  • Review and determine if calls are appropriate based on changing guidelines
  • Review and select calls that are designated CMED to best serve our citizens
  • Evaluate and advocate for appropriate patient care decisions
  • Conduct patient education
  • Assist police/fire units and community agencies
  • Operate lightweight vehicles non-emergent in all weather conditions
  • Administer patient care consistent with department physician guidelines
  • Document appropriate patient care reports using the ESO system
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate
Knowledge of:
  • Organizational objectives, procedures, policies, and regulations
  • Utilization of current technology to perform job duties
  • Patient care reporting and basic medical terminology
Ability to:
  • Evaluate a situation and help problem solve
  • Interpret and apply common sense understanding to carry out a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Prioritize tasks and deadlines; apply critical thinking skills to address conflicting priorities
  • Demonstrate strong reasoning, interpersonal, language, and math skills
  • Read and interpret documents and/or procedures such as protocols, physician orders, safety rules, and operating and maintenance instruction procedure manuals
  • Demonstrate effective leadership and customer service
  • Assume responsibility without direct supervision; exercise initiative and judgment; and make decisions within the scope of assigned authority
  • Understand the multifaceted and interactive effects of personal and environmental factors that determine behaviors and identify leverage points for health and wellness promotion
  • Communicate and work effectively with others and maintain confidentiality

Successful candidates will have

  • A high school diploma or GED
  • One year of full-time Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P) experience
  • Possess, or obtain upon hire and maintain, a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver's license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges
  • Possess current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), and State of Colorado or National Registry EMT-P certifications
One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.

Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.

Ideal candidates will also have

  • Experience in the El Paso County 911 system performing medical response
  • Possess working knowledge of current El Paso County physician advisor guidelines
  • Experience with community health medicine

Additional Information

The City of Colorado Springs offers additional compensation depending on the position, area of assignment, and specific job assignments, including shift differential, pay differential, acting or lead, special assignment, hazard pay, longevity, cell phone allowance, uniform allowance, relocation, awards, standby, call out, compensatory time off, tuition, overtime, extra duty, incentive, holiday premium, proficiency, and vacation sell back.

Physical Demands: This position requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, 25 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly.
