Commercial Development Manager Job at The Outset Group
Introduction
A private equity group is looking to add a Commercial Development Manager (CDM) to its growing team. This role will act as the “tip of the spear” for all commercial growth at two different “green industry” companies – a tree service AND a custom landscape design/installation company (NOT commercial lawncare maintenance).
Although the person taking on this role will inherit some existing commercial accounts, the Group partners are focused on hiring someone that has at least 1.5+ years “cold” sales experience. For this role, “cold” sales experience means a candidate has demonstrated they can start business relationships from scratch through the use of cold calling or site drop-ins.
About the Role
The role will report directly to the partners of the Group and will work daily with a team of 5-8 other individuals but are not directly managed by the CDM. This role can be a work from home (WFH) role but will alter some aspects of the compensation plan.
The CDM must be highly independent and possess the ability to work with little to no supervision. The Group partners will not have the time to, nor do they believe in, managing sales leaders in their portfolio of companies. They are of the firm belief that they should only need to “manage” whether the sales targets are being hit and backlogs are staying full.
A qualified candidate will possess and be able to successfully demonstrate and discuss:
- 1.5+ years of cold sales experience
- Demonstrated history of developing business relationships from scratch via cold calling or site drop-ins (cold emails are completely ineffective and are not considered the correct experience for this role)
The CDM will be using a variety of methods to directly drive commercial sales, including (but not limited to):
- Monitoring paid bid forums and completing bid packages (25% of time)
- Soliciting existing commercial relationships (5% of time)
- Attending select industry events where there is demonstrated high ROI (1% of time)
- Cold calling (this is a must and should make up >65% of the CDM’s week; anyone not willing to cold call need not apply)
Compensation
As alluded to above, this is an aggressive, “eat what you kill” role. As such, commissions are settled weekly upon cash collection instead of quarterly as with most sales roles. Here is the breakdown of annual OTE:
- Annual Base Salary: $55,000 for the first six weeks (only two weeks if working from home is preferred), reduced to $45,000 thereafter
- New Account Commission: 5% of all Net Revenue on any new account during the first six months of engagement; 1% thereafter
- Existing Account Commission: .5% on all existing accounts, including accounts where work has previously been conducted
- Total OTE Compensation: $85,000/annually
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
Benefits:
- Paid time off
Schedule:
- Monday to Friday
- Weekend availability
Supplemental pay types:
- Commission pay
