Summary:
Clinician mentors are experienced clinicians responsible for supervising and training new clinicians in Coastal Medicals longitudinal mentorship program. Their role will include providing direct and indirect supervision instruction and feedback as detailed below. Clinician mentors will work with mentees for approximately 6-12 months and up to two years based on need and as determined by the POD physician leader or Medical Director.

Responsibilities:
Directly observe patient care or precept patients seen during all new clinicians first 1-2 weeks in the office. The time spent in the office will be determined by the designated clinician mentor based on the new clinicians experience and clinical competency.

Work with Practice Managers to ensure schedules reflect appropriate visit types appointment duration and daily patient capacity as outlined in the Longitudinal Mentorship Program Manual.

Determine readiness to see patients independently in the office.

During phases 2-4 of the program will spend 2 or more hours per week performing chart reviews on all patients seen by new clinicians (time will vary based on need).

Meet with each new clinician for a minimum of one hour every 4 weeks to provide feedback based on chart reviews address concerns and troubleshoot and identify areas to improve (time will vary based on need).

Ensure all new clinicians complete the new clinician curriculum.

Always remain available to support mentees.

Reach out to the CMO or a Medical Director with any concerns regarding clinical competency.

Complete New Clinician Clinical Competency Evaluation Template. Determine readiness for empanelment (if applicable).

If empaneled after year 1 designated mentors can choose to supervise clinical care during year two as follows:

o Dedicate one hour per week for chart reviews

o Meet with mentees to provide feedback at a frequency determined by mentors

Complies with federal and local confidentiality laws including HIPAA ensuring patient privacy

Adheres to Coastal Medical guidelines and policies for protecting patients demographic clinical and financial information

Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Other information:
Education and Experience

MD or DO degree required for physician or Advanced Practitioner mentorship

NP or PA degree required for Advanced Practitioner mentorship

Board certification required

Unrestricted Rhode Island State Medical license and DEA certificate required

Eight (8) years of practice experience required

Employee in good standing as evidenced by recent performance review (APPs)

Knowledge Skills and Ability

Skilled in collaborating with colleagues and teammates as necessary to ensure quality work Ability to foster a cooperative work environment

Ability to organize prioritize and schedule work assignments

Ability to work under pressure with the skills to think critically and problem solve

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) with the capability to effectively communicate with employees patients providers insurance companies etc.

Demonstrated skill in providing superior customer service to all

Demonstrated ability to be flexible and receptive to change learn quickly and retain new information

Ability to use technology with proficiency in E.H.R Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook Excel and Word

Detail and process orientated with a focus on accuracy and efficiency

Physical Effort and Dexterity

Sit and stand for prolonged periods of time

Work remotely and in person. Move among all departments of Coastal Medical Physicians Inc.

Excellent hand/eye coordination

Manual dexterity to operate a personal computer or laptop as well as standard office machines and equipment as it pertains to ones position

State-wide travel and operation of motor vehicle [may be required for offsite meetings and training

o Must have a valid drivers license and clean driving record o Use of personal vehicle and proof of auto insurance is necessary

Visual Acuity Hearing and Speaking

Capability to transfer information from original source to paper computer telephone and in person
